As far as stationary cable is concerned it probably does not matter.

The flow of the electrons in the CAT5?s copper leads would be affected by temperature, but it is not going to be noticeable on a functional level.

running it through the heating ducts? I did that for years at my parents place and never had an issue.

No, but it might be subjected to some temperature extremes.
How important is the cable run?
is this for a business and an important cable run?
if that is the case, i would suggest running fiber for any kind of uplink.
(fiber isn't ungodly expensive if you run it for specific runs)

however depending on everything else b/c you think it might be subjected to extremes you might want to run them in an insulated pipe or something...
