I've been looking for some information on the Athlon MP's temperature levels and can't find it. What is the nominal operating temperature for an Athlon MP 1800+ (1.53Ghz), and what is the maximum safe temperature that the processor can run at?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

For *ALL* AMD processors the max temp you can get before damage occurs is 90C. That's *DIE* temp. I.E. 75C or so thermistor temp. Prolly less. Optimal operating temprature is probably around 50-60C Die temp, or around 40-50C thermistor temp. I would say anything over 60C thermistor is really asking for trouble.

That 90c max temp is AMD's official line. However, you will find that Windows will start acting unstable well before your cpu reaches any sort of max temp. My rule of thumb is to try to keep LOAD temp < 60c. This is usually easily attainable provided you have good case cooling and a decent HSF.

Thanks for the answers. After the arctic silver and thermaltake Volcano 7's, my CPUs are still hovering around 50C at full load on both. Someone told me that should be more like 40. I'll go kick them.

Thanks again.
