Operating Systems Course

Hey guys,

My senior year of college is mere weeks away, so I wanted to see if there was anyway to get a bit of a head start on the course that makes almost all CS Majors weep.

At Virginia Tech, some idiot decided to switch over to a curriculum that is all Java based - thus, I think, SOMEHOW, the OS Course is taught in Java (Though I see no point in doing such a thing especially given that Java is a garbage collected language).

Can anyone suggest to me some good reading or anything that will help me with this?

My curriculum was java based, but my OS class still focused on assembly code and general algorithms. It wasn't a hard course either, but that probably varies by teacher.
