Operating System

I've found Win98SE runs pretty darn well, and WinME just throws a wrench in the works. I truly can't justity anyone running WinME...but i CAN justify running win2k instead of 98. but if it comes down to a 9x box vs. ME, i wholeheartedly suggest sticking with 98 (SE in particular)

98SE by far. Me takes a fairly stable (by MS standards) and adds a few hundred instabilities. And it's slower too.

98 or 98SE - MS plans to phase these out.
ME - can't network so if you plan to, don't bother getting it.
Win2k - you're going to need at least 256 megs of RAM.

Obviously, Win2k is the most stable. As far as speed, I haven't noticed any difference between 98SE or ME.
