Operating system won't load in new computer?

Hi,

I just put my new pc together, but I am having quite a hard time installing windows xp and windows 2000. The first time I tried to install it the pc booted from the cdrom and the blue screen that said windows xp appeared and it loaded some files, but as soon as it tried to start windows it would crash. After rebooting the computer and trying a couple of times, the computer now will hang when it tries to load the operating system from the cdrom. I have no clue what's going on. Have you had any problems like this one before, if so what did you do to fix it?

MSI KT3 Ultra
AMD XP 1800+
Maxtor 40G
ATI Radeon 8500LE

Any help would be really appreciated!!

I agree, try a different video card to see if you can get it to sucessfully boot. Also, make sure you have the minimal components hooked up for the first few boots. Just the HDD, floppy, video card, RAM and CPU w/HSF. If Windows has finished copying all the files and loading the OS to your HDD, you can even disconnect the CDROM for now but it isn't critical at this point. Keep the sides of the case off also so you can check out fans, etc and for the fact that you will be adding back other hardware. Make sure (for now) that no other devices are in the PCI slots either.
