I own a Sony VAIO computer and the main specs are 1.8 ghz, 60 gb HD 5400 rpm 2mb buffer, and 256 mbram. I purchase my computer as a refurbished unit off ubid and it was preloaded with Windows XP home edition. The problem i am facing is that the OS lags after running for four hours, whether running XP home or pro. When i say lag, i mean that it goes through an instantaneous repetitive freeze and unfreeze until i restart my computer. This problem does not happen when running windows 2000. please give me any suggestions or advice. thanks

My guess is that it could be a low memory problem. I would try the following: add another 256mb of memory, custom set the virtual memory to 3x the installed memory followed by a defrag, then download a copy of the Services setting from Black Viper website. Changing the services settings as he suggests, will free up some memory and in other ways, help performance.
