Operating in PIO mode?

Motherboard is a ECS K7S5A

I don't think i've ever had this problem before, but I recently added a dvd burner (replacing a cd-rw) Just noticed a drive is operating in PIO, DMA is better correct?

Pic!

I've had this mobo for a few years now, I remember runnin SISIDE.EXE way back when, I tried that this time but with no luck. I set the dvd-rom to master and put it on the end of the IDE cable, the burner is slave and on the other IDE connection, correct?

Any suggesting? Thx in advance 🙂

I have the same motherboard and had almost exactly the same problem, although I had all of my drives running in PIO mode. It's possible that not all steps are necessary, but here is what I did to get it to work:

1. Uninstall primary and secondary IDE channels from the Device Manager.
2. Reboot and enter the BIOS
3. Set all drives in the BIOS General page to Auto (I could not get DMA to work until ALL - even unused channels - were set to Auto)
4. Save the changes and exit the BIOS
5. Boot into Windows and confirm that the Device Manager shows the IDE channels as using Ultra DMA

In your case, since your other drives are working properly you may just need to remove the burner from the Device Manager, set the new DVD burner to Auto in the BIOS then reboot and confirm that Windows reads the drive as UDMA when it detects the drive again (it should).

I'm glad it helped! I was pretty pleased when I finally got it working on my computer and I'm happy I was able to share it. 🙂
