I'm on version 4.02 and it locked up when using the 'http" button to make a link in a post here. I just started on it last night and like the features it has a lot, but not this one. I also miss the use of the back button on the mouse. Anyone got any fixes? What do you think of this browser?

I use Opera 5.02 everywhere else on the web but at AT, it just goes on forever after I hit the post button. No idea why since I can read and do everything else here no problem.

I hate Ad-ware. But i do like opera very much. Anyway i can get rid of the ad legally? Peace out.

Opera has problems with java, also it has embedded spyware/adware
I would sugest using IE 5 (5.5 also has some minor problems)
Avoid the AOL owned Netscrap (netscape used to be OK but now that AOL owns it, it's crap)

Opera is a great browser. It is much faster on fast connection and slower on slow connection. Why, who knows. I agree, it has Java bugs and quite a lot. Otherwise it is nice, best browser for downloading things, I just love that download window....
Why ues a web browser with annoying ads when you can download a faster and more robust one from Microsoft. I dont understand you Opera users. Face it, you cant beat IE 5.5! Its faster, more reliable, has more features, and best of all it doesnt have ads!
Use opera exclusively for a week and you may change your opinion of it.
I like opera's window management for different sites, download window, etc.
Nothing beats just hitting 1 or 2 to go back and forth between different web pages

I haven't used Opera since version 3.x but 5.x sure looks impressive on paper at least. I'm going to give it a shot soon.

I used Opera a lot before it was ad-based and I still think that IE 5.5 is faster. The window management is nice but I prefer IE's window system since you can easily switch between windows. Also Opera doesnt support nearly as many CSS features as IE does. Most webpages are made for IE and thus they look a lot better in IE than Opera.

I have to disagree about CSS. Opera's CSS support is actually even better than IE 5.x. There may be some "extra" properties and CSS filters, but those are not part of the CSS standard.

I've been using Opera for a couple of months now(version 5.0) and have yet to have a problem----it's MUCH faster than IE(especially 5.5, which is slower than 5.1)---try it, it's free...
Been there, done that, am using Mozilla full-time now.

I'm sure most sites are designed for IE first, Netscape second - is it really worth downloading and installing another "free" browser when IE normally does the job perfectly well?
Perhaps if you have a miniscule HD it would be worthwhile?

that's because opera adhere to the html standards set by the w3. and kudos goes to them for it. I like opera..but I still use IE5.5 to surf the net. but when I want to test pages out, I can only trust opera to tell me if I did something correctly.
I use Opera for nearly all surfing, including AT. IE is only used every once in a while. Opera is, in my opinion, and according to extensive tests done by a German magazine, faster by far than Netscape and a little faster than IE5. It also aheres very well to the web standards set by the W3C.
I love the fact that I can surf on 10 sites at the same time without running into any problems at all, neither does it use too many resources (running a Duron 800 now, but it was easily possible on a Cel300A, as well), nor does surfing with many windows become confusing. Switching through 10 websites using '1' and '2' takes about the time IE uses to display a single page...
I also cannot see why Opera should be less 'robust' than IE. It doesn't crash often, and *if* it does crash you can always recover your session. A crash is only a minor annoyance, not more.

What I haven't been able to figure out is why the standard isn't being adopted by everyone so that designers don't have to use proprietary tags... would make my life a whole hell of a lot easier. ;-)

The only annoying "problem" I have with IE is that occasionally I get that "page not found" error message -when you know that it's incorrect, however, a simple pressing of the refresh button sorts that out generally.
I initially started out as a Netscape user and was not too keen on the IE series of browsers but over time that has changed.
I may change in future too - but due to my familiarity with IE it's probably less likely at the moment.
