Opera is malware not a browser!

Please do post such a guide, not only was I unable to do it, but I searched the internet and everywhere I looked people said you can't change it since v13.

Sorry for the late response. Unfortunately, I was unable to change my default search engine to something other than the five specified without the assistance of an extension. I don't quite know how my default for WolframAlpha carried over from the previous version, but once i switched it to one of the regular defaults, i could not get it back. An extension can get you that functionality if you're still interested in pursuing it.

My apologies for the run-around. 😉
 
They must have only made it impossible to change in the GUI without bothering to harden it against tampering. So it carries over from older version, and an extension can change it, or you could change it by manually editing the setting files while the browser is off.
