Opera doesn't allow "remember password?"

Everytime I come to login to AT I have to type my password and username. Even after checking the "remember password" box I still have to manually sign in. I know about the wand tool, but that still requires extra keystrokes to login. Is there a way I can just have it log in automatically to websites? Thanks!

Several options:

• If login credentials have been used prior on the page/domain via the Wand, use the keyboard shortcut for "Forward" or "Fast-forward" found on the Keyboard shortcut via Help. Username/password/etc. will be filled in automatically, and you will be redirected to the successful submission page you are normally directed to after of login.
• Use the mouse gesture with the same principle above.
• If using a mouse with a forward/back button, use the forward button in the same fashion, with the same result.

If none of the above appeal to you, let us know as there are likely other options as well.

my opera keeps me logged into AT. i think i haven't typed my password in months. hope i didnt forget it. i dont use the wand, it just saves the login.

Well, Actuary, using any mouse gesture and or keyboard shortcut is just like pressing ctrl+enter. I want it to be like Firefox or IE where it just saves my password (preferably Firefox because I am able to organize my saved passwords) and I don't even have to see the login page.

Otherwise I'm lovin Opera

The above was non-site specific (in other words, for any site the requires login credentials). Believe all browsers stay logged into this forum specifically if the "Remember" checkbox is utilized (nothing more than a cookie).

It varies by site. In this forum, you simply have to configure Privacy preference correctly. Enable cookies, and uncheck "Delete cookies when exiting".

As rainypickles mentioned, Opera does not require a new login within the Anandtech forums if configured correctly.

As far as management by site, access the Server Manager by selecting Preferences>Privacy>Manage Cookies:

Hmm. Actuary, I enabled cookies, unchecked "delete new cookies when exiting Opera" and it still doesn't remember my passwords. This is my privacy preference page:

Enable referrer logging (check)
Enable automatic redirection (check)
Use cookies to trace password protected pages (uncheck)
Enable cookies (check)
Normal cookies ---> Accept all cookies
Third party cookies ---> Accept all cookies
Delete new cookies when exiting Opera (uncheck)
Warn me about incorrect cookie domains (uncheck)
Accept cookies with incorrect paths (uncheck)

You might want to state which version of Opera you are making use of.

I spent a few minutes testing a number of setting combinations across a number of different versions of Opera (v7.23, v7.54u1, and v7.54u2 - did not test the latest beta of 8 quite yet). The only way I was able to replicate the issue you describe was to have the setting controlling cookie deletion upon exit incorrectly set.

Verify that the Server Manager shows two cookie entries under forums.anandtech.com as show above in this graphic. If it appears the same, also would not hurt to delete all the entries listed there (including the Wand entries), clear the cache, close/reopen Opera, and login again making certain to check "Remember" checkbox.

This is likely a conversation better suited to another thread. I have the reverse opinion, but I likely have a bit more experience evaluating both applications.

Omfg I hate Opera. I turn on the comp today (after not touching it for about a week), log into AT, and didn't even notice that it logged in by itself! I mean, WTF? All this work to find that later it decides to do its thing? I'm gonna delete the cookie entries anyway and start over...just to make sure everything works fine...

EDIT: Ok, deleted all the cookies under Anandtech, reloaded Opera, went to AT forums, asked for user name and pass (as is should), I typed them in and checked "remember my password," and now it works (after restarting Opera). I think the key is to disable wand? Huh, whatever.

No. Wand shouldn't (and in my case, doesn't) interfere with any cookie issues.

Likely just a case of missing a proper step at the appropriate time (or PEBKAC).

Hmm, earlier you had listed "Use cookies to trace password protected pages (uncheck)"

Is that checked now? Could have been the problem.
