I heard that Opera is now using Mozilla. Is that true?

I still don't see why people pay for Opera or use it with ads when there's totally free alternatives out there. Hell I'd rather use IE than browse with constant ads, and I really despise IE =)

Because it s faster than nearly all of the alternatives. And it's a little ad browser in the upper right. After awhile you don t even realize its there.

Galeon and even Mozilla are plenty fast for me, taking no more than 2 seconds to render pretty much any page I point them to. And the client-side CSS I can use to block ads is great, but I have no idea if that's possible in Opera or not.

I used Mozilla for quite a while and made the switch to Opera a few months ago. Never going back although I do still use the Mozilla mail client. :) And I don't use Opera because of the supposed faster page rendering. There are tons of little features in Opera that make it outstanding.

You can't go wrong with either browser (Mozilla or Opera) though.

I love the mouse gestures. If you haven't browsed with mouse gestures you haven't truly lived. :D

i tripped over opera sometime ago, and uses Opera 90% of the time, but IE is still my default browser because it works with almost all sites (esp international sites) whereas opera is little buggy w/ certain ones.

things that really shines in opera over IE

1. when you want to go back to a form where u just filled pages of texts, if you press back in opera, everything that you did (checkmark, etc) is still there, w/ IE (and most of times, not all times) the checkmark and the text is gone, and if you haven't copied it, you have to type the damm lines again!! .

2. the tabs at the top rather thatn IE's taskbar-space-easter is much better when doing alot of things,

bad,

1. certain web-site having problme w/ O7. but i'm sure it'll be fixed
2. eats more memory than IE (i blieve),

final.

i'd love to pay for the Opera, it's certainly Excellent program; fast, convinient, and better looking! no complaints from regular user like me

Makes you wanna thick twice before diving in doesn't it? Kinda like when Koppix 3.2 first came out and then there were like 5 updates w/in a week. :p

Anyway, I love opera, it rocks. I dunno if Mozilla does this, but Opera7 has a feature where it will only open popups you've clicked, and it works pretty well. I can't even remember the last time I was bothered by a popup.

I think it's refreshing to see them doing some rapid betas and really (hopefully) churning through a lot of bugs. I've used 7.0, 7.01 -> 7.03 and I'm ready for a REAL bugfix release, it looks like 7.1 final isn't far off.

I currently use Opera 6.06 for my primary browsing, since 7 had a few weird issues for me and all they have done so far is security fixes.

- tabbed browsing
- caching (if I go forward/backwards I don't have to wait for a page to re-render, it's just there instantly)
- mouse gestures
- the 'only clicked popup links' feature of 7.x is awesome
- easily changed zoom level on any page
- saving sessions in 7.x
- user stylesheets in 7.x
- speed
- lots of useful features if you're a web developer

the list could go on and on, there's plenty of good reasons that I use Opera :)

Mozilla's done that for quite some time (easily before the 1.0 release), combine that with the client-side CSS to banner blocking and my browsing is 99% ad free now.

They have a great page that will tell you how to install plugins Here ! , it will show you proper way to get wmp, real player, quicktime, flash, shockwave, whatever you want... The only thing that opera will never do and never support is activex , although there is a plugin called neptune, but it doesnt work well... also for windows media player make sure you installed the final version and all windows updates before copying the files over.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Phoenix. Its Mozilla without the bloat - just the browser with an open source Gecko engine. To the guys who haven't tried it, you have to try it. The good thing is that, the nightly builds are full of speed tweaks and bug fixes that the milestones lack.

fyi Phoenix has various themes, I admit the default theme kinda sucks, but that's why the other themes are there. With 1-2 tweaks, Phoenix approaches Opera/IE, but if Opera works for you, good for you then. At least its better than IE :)
