Opera 15 Released

Thank you, seems nice so far, and faster. The fonts look different though - guess I'll have to get used to that.

Anyone know how to set a blank home page or change the setting so it doesn't open the last page viewed when you start opera?

Not interested in V15 ... seems to many things have changed and many people do not like the changes.

What do you think zokudu? You're an Opera dude. Are they on the right path, or did they sink all their effort on the fail boat?

Thanks, I found it. It is very unfortunate that you can't change the one on the start page.

Also, I wonder if there is a way to add other search engines to that list?

I found a problem, not sure if it's just on my PC but viewing PDFs doesn't seem to be working. If I enable click to play I get a DLL error and automatic plugins aren't working either, it cannot display pdf.

On the start page or the address bar? The address bar one is in the settings. Can't change the start page one I don't think.

I'll be 100% honest. Presto has become a problem in recent times for me. A lot of pages have issues with Presto and while I love Opera I've been tempted by Firefox more and more because of issues like that. I think the swap to Webkit/Blink is a good thing for Opera, lets face it Chrome has become the new IE6 and the web itself has built itself around Webkit. As far as usability goes as of right now I feel Opera 15 is a step backwards in a lot of ways. I'm not talking bookmarks (Stash is the same thing lets be real here they replaced the "Save to bookmarks button with Save to Stash) or even the built in apps like M2 because I never used them. I'm talking things that Opera had built in that needed extensions on other browsers. Things like Adblock, user scripts, custom css.

That is what set Opera apart from me was it had literally everything and I didn't need to fish for extensions for things. Just opening the settings page upsets me a bit at the moment because it's so sparse and when I do want to change something I can't. For the first time in a long time I can't answer peoples questions on things. Chiefcrowe has asked 3 questions in this thread that I could answer in Opera 12 and I can't in Opera 15 because it's not there. That is what upsets me. The Opera team says it's coming on their forums and I hope it does but it's not there yet.

I think the change to Webkit/Blink is a good one but this should have stayed in Next until they put in everything they have planned. I'm giving it another 6 months or so and if theres not enough progress towards what Opera was I'm probably swapping over to Firefox.

Good luck! I've always had a lot of respect for Opera, and thought they made a good browser. I also used it on occasion. I'm not inclined to install it now on purely philosophical grounds. It's proprietary software, and I have other libre choices for a secondary browser, while Firefox is main, and preferred browser.

I use both FF22 and Opera on my different PCs,anyway decided to try Opera 15 on my backup PC that uses Opera 12 as its main browser, all I can say it's crap virtually no customisation and even Chrome has more options, sad times indeed.

Hopefully they will add all the customisations to the new Opera down the road if not I'll stay with Firefox on all my PCs.

I can understand changing to a new webkit but don't take away the features that makes Opera Opera.

I agree, but you have all these idiot programmers (or bosses in some cases) that like to decide what we the users want, instead of giving us what we want. And then there is the bunch that changes things, just because they can. Never mind that it is not any good, like Windows 8 (great for tablet, not any good on a desktop or laptop)

Looks like it will be at least a year before v15 could be taken as a viable alternative (IF you bite your tongue really hard).
Yuck...

100% agree. Tried Opera a few months ago and I was really hoping for some good customizations. Because it took way more memory than any other web browser I have used, loaded pages noticeably slower, crashed way too often, and supported fewer ad-ons. Where is the attraction here?

They finally fixed the print function in Opera, and now they go and change everything.

Still using 12.x with skins probably from 10.x.

Sad to see Opera falling behind. I used until around version 6, where it got eclipsed by Firefox.

Well, 5 big players in the browser space are probably 1 or 2 too many.

I've been using Opera for a long time and I'm now migrating to Firefox.
Opera 15 just doesn't have the functionality I want. But I'll keep an eye on it, see how it evolves.
I really don't like how you can't even disable that "Discover" thing.
But the GUI is fast and it starts up very fast.

I did not try Opera 15, but from what I heard, it does not upgrade Opera 12 ..... You can also install it to it's own Folder such as C:\Program Files\Opera 15 ... that should keep it totally seperate from Opera 12

Can you have Opera 15 AND 12 side by side? I have 12.16 tweaked the way I want it.

Yes ,when you install opera 15 (if you have 12.6 installed already)you get two icons in taskbar ie one for Opera 12.16 and one for 15,when you uninstall Opera 15,Opera 12.6 still remains.

Ugh... where's the toolbar? where's custom bookmarks bar? It looks and feels too much like IE10/chrome yuck. Heck, where are the normal bookmarks!!!?!

At least when you install O15, O12 remains and you can still use it instead.

I think I saw somewhere, that the bookmarks are now web based. If that is the case, Opera (and any other browser that decides to do that) will lose me as a user. And I will stay with the last release that works the way I want it to. I for one, do not want anyone to know what my bookmarks are.
