Anti-aliasing definitely adds to the cool factor. Also adds shadows to objects that you drag. And overlining has finally been added to the list of Writer improvements! Too many changes to mention. Visit the new features link to see a nice description of many of the changes.
 
I haven't upgraded in a while (2.4). I just use Writer and Calc for very basic stuff. How does this new version run on older systems compared to 2.x? My old version ain't broke, so I don't really want to "upgrade" if it's slower on my old single-core laptop.
