Openly carry in your home during CL transaction

How do you guys feel about this? Due to size and weight of some things you just can't meet up with the buyer in a public place.

I think it's douchey to open carry so I wouldn't do it but I have been thinking of conceal carry during home transactions. Unfortunately my sp2022 isn't the ideal size to conceal effectively.

If you're in your own home, you don't need to conceal it effectively.

You do have to be sure that it can't be taken from you, tho.

I put the stuff outside in my garage with the garage wide open and only meet during the day. This way my whole neighborhood can see.

there was a story a few days ago where a man conceal carrying went to buy an iPad from another guy. the buyer ended up getting shot and killed.

you may not be fast enough to pull your gun. have a friend or two stand guard with shotguns pointed at the buyer while conducting transaction. this free public safety announcement brought to you by me.

PSA: Unless it something VERY LARGE (Read: Not able to Ship) and still valued at over $50, it is incredibly stupid to try and sell something over craigslist.

This pretty much limits it to:
-Appliances (Freezer, Refrigerator, Washer, Dryer)
-Large Tools (Saw Sets, etc..)
-Vehicles

Anything else - and you're an idiot. You clearly have lost the ability to weigh risk vs. reward and time vs. money.

I think you can do what you want in your own home.

That said I do like the idea of putting it outside the garage and doing the transaction in the driveway rather than in the house.

Yeah agree with above. Wouldn't do it inside the home. Conceal carry is probably fine though, I def wouldn't open carry. I might also tell a close friend or family member a stranger is coming over at a certain time...Justtttt in case something did happen.

Damn, I must be a foolish trusting soul, then. I just sold a Paradigm soundbar system three days ago in my house and didn't even have a gun nearby. Sold two cars within the last month or so....even did a test drive with the buyer and without a gun on me during the entire drive of both.

Silly me.

Then again, I don't live in abject fear of everyone else on the planet.

Of course, I do have dogs. Large dogs.

Same. I sell all kinds of crap on craigslist. No fear. If they want to do a gunpoint couch jacking I'm not gonna get into a shootout with them. Hell, I'll throw in a couple extra pillows.

Ive had many transactions on craigslist and have never once had a problem. Sounds like a personal issue.

you guys are too paranoid about craigslist selling. What can they do in the house? I have sold and bought at craigslist. Even went to a hot looking girls house and I was surprised she invited me in. She then proceeded to her room to get the item. She was alone too. It might be your bad luck if they kill you for your used item.

I do have 2 guns though and only had to hide it under the cushion once. The guy was coming at 10pm.

I've largely given up on Craigslist. I'm not a fan of guns, and it's not as if I want to be put in a situation where I need to shoot people either. However, that was not my main reason. My main reason is that if it's less than $50 I can't be bothered, and if it's more than $50 like an iPhone or an iPad, I can often get a store to buy it. Yeah, they'll pay less than what I can get on Craigslist/Kijiji, but then again it's relatively painless. No more worrying about idiots and people who don't show up, etc.

I just sold my carrier-locked Motorola RAZR HD to a store. They were only offering $50, but I said I'd buy another more expensive phone from them if they gave me more for the RAZR HD, so they up'd the trade-in value to $100. I was fine with that, even if I could get closer to $150+ on Craigslist.

WTF am I reading?

Y'all discussing this as if it's just normal and shit.

yep, yep, and yep. bunch a tiny-peen'd fear-mongers whenever CL discussions come up.

I don't really get it.

I've sold furniture and AV equipment on craigslist. Generally I use CL for anything that would be too costly to ship or giveaway free crap.

Each time I've had the person come to my house and pick up whatever it was. I am too lazy to go to a public place to meet. No problems and I don't own a gun. I did decide not to sell my iPhone on CL because people were getting robbed in my area. I probably would have got a lot more than I did via Amazon trade in but I didn't think it was worth the risk for that specific case.

Trust is something earned. You're a complete moron if you trust another human out of a craigslist ad.

Case in Point: Does everyone trust that their employer will not lay them off tomorrow? Because if your answer is yes... I have some bad news for you....

Do you carry your straps to work, just in case?

Same response as last 'oh noes craigslist!' thread:

Quit advertising yourself as an antisocial shut-in. While I hate to put a 'normal' label on people...well, 'normal' people just don't have these issues. Anyone who has been willing to do a transaction at their house has not particularly frightened, or been frightened by, myself.

Maybe it's simply because I live in the south, and it's pretty much understood that they will have access to a firearm, so I'm not a worry. And people generally aren't going to try to rob you in their own home, so they're not a worry.

I mean, hell, the last time I bought something where someone just said 'come over,' it was an old router. The guy leads me deep into his house to his nerd room, he shows me that it works, we chat for a while, he shows me his arcade cabinet he's building...ect. You know, like, friendly, normal people interaction.

This thought that every CL transaction is like some kind of old west showdown...jesus, people.

Well, that's just it, like the other poster said. A used iPhone might be 500 bucks, and it's something that fits in the palm of your hand. Easy to steal. When I was in Costa Rica, the smartphone shops had guards armed with machine guns. No such guards at souvenir and antique shops.

P.S. For old furniture these days I tend to give it away, or put it on the curb. If I put it on the curb and then advertise it on Craigslist's free section, it's gone in hours. That way I don't have to haul it to the dump.

:sneaky: Do you know something I don't?

The only problem with that last paragraph is that there is really absolutely nothing you can do about it anyway so why worry?

And yes, I generally trust that most people I meet on a daily basis don't want to kill me. That doesn't mean that I trust them implicitly, just that I trust they have no malice toward me. It's a pretty safe bet generally speaking... even in the Paranoid States of 'Murika.
