OpenGL crashes Tribes 1

i have a 2.8ghz processor, winxp, and sis 650_651_740 vid card (crappy).

when i run the game (tribes 1) in software mode, the game looks really crappy, but runs smoothly. when i try to run it in opengl mode, the game just crashes all together once i hit the apply button. i've tried the three different opengl modes already and i've tried them at 1024x768 and 800x600 rez's. i have the latest drivers downloaded for my video card.

why would the game be crashing first of all, and second, how would i be able to correct this problem?

Have you tried running any other OpenGL games on your rig? My guess is that chipset just doesn't have enough Umph to power OpenGL.

Maybe the drivers just don't like it... seriously

Tribes 1 is old, while it is fun, it is still OLD! I don't think ATI and Nvidia test their drivers with Tribes 1 anymore.

Age has nothing to do with it. The game was originally coded in 3dfx Glide. I works best with a Voodoo series card (note the decent amount of people that build "old school" compatibility boxes).
