Opened up my Athlon650 for the hell of it. Guess what...............

650 core. Oh well,thats all i can expect from an Athlon 650. I opened it because i got restless from hearing about all those high cores. Well now i need a GFD. Anyone got one for sale? Wel,i did get the 3.1 cache so i didn't totally lose out.

How can you check the core?

Isnt the only way to remove the backplate.. if so isnt it a bitch to get the backplate back on?

You just have to be VERY CAREFULL taking it apart and putting it back together. If you demolish the case you won't be able to put it back on. If your not really sure of yourself and have no reason to do this, i.e. installing a goldfinger device then you probably should'nt. I may sound like a hypocrite but i intend on using a GFD and wanted to see what cache and core i had. I would've liked a 750 core but i'm glad i at least got the 3.1 cache. Its not real hard taking that case apart but if you are not carefull you could scratch or gouge it and have a nice new paperweight on your hands. Just go really slow and tell yourself that you need to put it back together where as nobody will notice you took it apart,that way you will be more cautious. I know if my girlfriend even knew i ripped my computer apart without even having the GFD yet she would chew me out a bit as i am broke right now and won't have one for a couple of days..

There is a program which I saw on another site (http://www.vr-zone.com), which allows you to see the core speed w/o having to open the case. For example, it reads current speed 700Mhz, and core speed 800Mhz.

found the dmiview.exe file that supposedly tells you ur max speed...i dont know if its all that accurate...i have a week 16, athlon 700 (non thunderbird) slot A processor...and it tells me max speed of 800....i haven't opened up processor to find out if its true or not...but i have the feeling that everyone who has an athlon 700 will report a max speed of 800...

if you want to get the dmiview.exe...check the cd that came with your motherboard...or look around on the web...its out there....
