OpenBSD

Anyone running OpenBSD? Was just wondering how it stacks up to FreeBSD, I've read about some of the differences, but haven't really seen anyone use it. I'd just install it to test it out, but I'm out of boxes at the moment to throw an OS on.

FreeBSD is better in a sense of being more widely used and has all the original Unix developers in it. OpenBSD has slightly better security as more things are turned off by default. There is the trustedBSD distribution which is just FreeBSD tightened up.

NetBSD and FreeBSD are both cousins that originally started based on 386BSD and then later rewritten from scratch under BSD 4.4 code. FreeBSD is Intle x86/DEC Alpha only while NetBSD is available for many platforms of which MacBSD is one of them or NetBSD/mac. OpenBSD came from NetBSD.

I've used OpenBSD before.. Heh, the only reason I gave it a shot was cause of the cute fish on the website.

If you're interested in a workstation OS to listen to Mp3's and surf the net, FreeBSD is a good choice. OTOH, if you're setting up a server, OpenBSD is very secure.
