I know they don't distribute ISOs, but what do I download from their ftp site to have an installable version of OpenBSD for x86?

Thanks!

<< The only hard part of installing OPENBSD is the partitioning >>

Actually the hard part is wrapping your mind around disk labeling versus disk partitioning. Other than that I agree with everything that TheHitman said. :)

Yes, I read the FAQ, it just seemed like too few things. In the days that many Linux distros are hitting 2 CDs, having just about 70MB for OpenBSD surprised me. I thought I was missing something I needed.

So, if this is so slim, how easy is it to find stuff. Is there a "freshmeat" type site for OpenBSD?

The reason they don't do ISO is not because no one needs them, it is because that is how they get a little funding.

"There are no ISO's because no one needs them to install OpenBSD."

Nope. There are no ISO's because they don't want people to be able to easily get the software. People not comfortable with (or able to) installing it over FTP or creating a CD themselves get stuck with BUYING a CD. Linux and FreeBSD can both be installed over FTP or from a hard drive partition just as easily as OpenBSD, but OpenBSD doesn't post (or from what I've gather, even allow) ISO's. It's basically discrimination against inexperienced users.

There's my rant for today. :)

Do you want OpenBSD on CD? Here's absolutely the best place to get it: Cheapbytes. Cheapbytes offers burnt and retail packaged distros for practically nothing and shipping is *very* reasonable.

For OpenBSD, here's the link to the specific page:

Link

See items 47-50. OpenBSD 2.4 is available for free + shipping.

Enjoy!
