I am looking to implement a firewall solution. I have an old PC or 2 kicking around and was wondering what my options are.

I like IPCop, but it looks like it is a custom Linux distro for only that purpose.

Are there any similar programs I can drop onto a basic OpenBSD or Linux install that ll do the same ? I would like to tinker with both the firewall and eventually more with that OS (hence why I m not to keen on just using IPCop).

What kind of extra programs do you need? OpenBSD comes with a text editor and the best firewall around...

Although I think using a web front end or any other gui for most firewalls is kinda silly, this might be something to look at. Here's one in QT.

I'm not sure what features IPCOP has that OpenBSD + PacketFilter doesn't though.

Read one of the PF faqs too. They'll be able to let you do a better job than any of those silly programs.
