i took a screenshot of directory structure showing the four ISO images of openbsd.
I'm a little lost as to which disk is needed. the first disk labeled "base" was recently
updated, but "packages" and "packages2" are rather old.

I'm guessing it's openbsd30-i386-base.iso
You could check openbsd30-i386-base.iso.list to see if it has the right packages.

Base.iso should be it. packages iso is probably just extra packages. BTW, hook me up with where you are downloading those isos. Mine havent arrived yet, and I wouldnt mind checking to see if those are legit (as in not the official iso). I wouldnt trust iso's from a place I had never heard of (especially when they are not legally allowed to make official isos) :p

EDIT: Oh yeah, an ftp install or buying the cds is a much better solution.

Actually, my bad, I dont see the iso's on the mirrors, just stuff for an ftp installation. Though you could grab the neccessary files and burn them to cd manually i suppose.

The official iso image is copyrighted to Theo DeRaadt. Having it is a bonus for the people that buy the cds. Those who do not need to get unofficial isos (which must not be the same as the official iso) or do an ftp install.
