still cheaper than office

does it still have that anoying microsoft works look when you start it? like a popup window "Do you want to write documents" button and so on?

eh, stick to open office 😉 unfortunately, it's doesn't seem as quick as office xp even.. then again it's free... altho, at school we need to use excel for some of our assignments.. blah.

I think more ppl will go to openoffice still.. and download the dictionary.. they are essentially the same.

Man, I haven't used Microsoft Works in ages. I use Office XP Professional and it is simply THE BEST.

Outlook + Word + Excel + Powerpoint + FrontPage + Publisher = second to none

Besides, I can get Office XP standard for $145, SB Edition for $170, and Professional for $205. When it comes to my office packages, I would gladly pay more for MS.

oh yeah I agree Office XP pro is just.. unbeatable right now. When I tried out Staroffice.. ahemm.. few years ago you started the program and got up this microsoft works window that asked if you wanted to write documents, manage spreadsheets or database work and then started the appropriate program according to what the user chose. Thats the main reason why I hated works and hated staroffice.

OpenOffice is like the free version of StarOffice. Asking money for StarOffice will improve its image (especially in regard to companies, which usually see free software as 'unreliable').

It's like Mozilla and Netscape, except that Netscape's browser is free as well.

BTW, I have used Office 95, 97 and 2000 and didn't like any of them. At least they finally killed the paperclip.

the avatar in office can be turned off. I used Staroffice for about 3 month and thought it sucked. It was slow, painfully slooooow.

5.1 and 5.2 were slow. 6.0 is much, much faster.

is staroffice 6.0 based on the latest version of openoffice? Cause that still wasn't all that fast... in comparison to ms office. And i have to say 2000 has been working the best for me... xp looks nice, but is slower on my system for some reason.

StarOffice and OpenOffice are seperate branches.
