Open virtual switch

Hi all,
I want to know what is the Open virtual switch, I have googled about that, but really I couldn't find a good concept!🙁
I will appreciate if anyone can explain that for me.
Thanks in advance.

To put it simply, its a virtual switch that allows more advanced networking features to guest OS under virtual environment. For example, you connect a single network cable to your virtual environment, you need 5 different vlans on 5 different guest OS, you would connect the real network to the virtual switch and then program the virtual switch to act as a trunk port, access port etc. Also allows you to setup SPAN to copy network traffic destined for one guest OS to another guest OS.

Thank you so much for your answer,as I found so we use the virtual switch instead of the 5 OS guest,am I right?
and another question is, what is the relevant between the virtual switch and OpenFlow or SDN?
thanks.
