Open source website annotation tool ?

Does anyone know of open source, self hosted versions of the following two services ?

http://genius.com/ or https://hypothes.is/

They both look like you would share your notes in their "cloud", but unfortunately that won't work for me.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Looking at https://hypothes.is/, it appears to be a client side tool that just hits a webservice.

If I really wanted to hack it for personal use I could think of a couple optiuons:

* Use fiddler to redirect the calls to their webservice to my own.
* Dig out the code for the tool (assuming it's just a javascript file) and modify it, then use as my own.

The only downside to the 2nd option is that the code is probably minified. Not a total dealbreaker if all you change is the URL it calls out to, but could make other changes difficult.

Of course you'd have to make your own web service to receive the calls and store the data, but that should be trivial.
