last night I broke out my old freespace 2 disks and logged into the CVS for the fs2 open project. http://scp.indiegames.us/news.php
After using unshield to extract the files I needed to /usr/local/games/fs2_open and compiling the exe then installing the graphic updates the developers have made, I have to say this is an awesome game. I can't beleive how much I've missed. The graphic updates are impressive and they game runs very fast.
They have some pre-compiled binarys for anyone on windows who wants to try it, and a good howto for linux compiling. Also there are links to the forums where a few users have built full fledged installs with all the files you need if you dont own a copy of freespace 2. I can't wait to see how some of the mods turn out.
