Open plan living

I was looking for a new apartment, and was rather surprised by what seems to be a new trend in "open plan living".

I don't mean having to put sofas in the kitchen as is already extremely popular. Well, perhaps, it's best if I just let the pictures do the talking.

Does this even meet code?

What in the fuck? Never seen that before, and certainly would not live like that unless I was forced to at gunpoint or something.

err, no thanx, there is a reason why there is a door and an exhaust fan in washrooms.

Not supposed to shit where you eat...I'd make an argument you don't shit where you sleep either.

I like open floor plans, but that's a little too open. No way do I want my toilet next to my bed. Did you see the Mythbusters episode about what's found on every surface of the bathroom? Nasty.

I don't mind open, and will actually be doing an open plan when I turn a few rooms into a master bedroom/bath - no door to the master bathroom; more of a wide entranceway, but I'm still going to isolate the toilet.

In my former house there was a jacuzzi adjacent to the bedroom. No wall in between. That got disposed in a hurry.

Cool. I'd prefer the shitter in some sort of nook though. Otherwise, seems like a good idea to me.

I don't understand why everyone is so worried about the size of their bedroom. Does it fit a bed, can you fuck in there, sounds big enough for me.

I feel like I'd be too worried about humidity for that.

I like the concept of an open floor plan, but I'd want the bathroom(s) sealed off and a strong kitchen fan so that the entire house doesn't smell of fish when I'm cooking a giant salmon. (if it's a loft situation, I'd also want the bedroom area somewhere easy to curtain off to cut down on the light in the early morning... nothing like the sun beaming directly at your eyeballs at 6 am)

I'd +1 that... my ideal bedroom would have enough space to fit a queen or king-sized bed, 2 night tables, 2 dressers, and enough floor space for 2 people to get dressed at the same time. outside of that, I don't need crazy bedroom space for a sitting area, decorative chairs, etc. I'd rather have the extra space in the living room.

In my previous house my bedroom was 300sq ft. with an adjacent walk in closet and wasroom which were not part of the 300.

You know what else has a an open plan concept?

No thanks - I'll pass...

Its like a prison cell.

maybe I'd have to be in the space to appreciate it, but that feels too big for me. I like my bedrooms to be dark and cozy.
