Welcome! I just got my S400 and I love it.

1. Do you keep the wrist strap on or off?
2. Do you use the Canon Soft Leather Case?

I put the wrist strap on, but it seems like it's just a hazard, for instance, it can snag on something and cause the camera to fall.

Will the leather case cause scratches on the LCD (since it's so snug in there)? The camera seems pretty tough, except for the LCD which is the only delicate thing exposed when the camera is off.

Sorry for the stupid questions, I just got this camera and I love it, and would like to take good care of it. I'm a nut that way.

Edit: For those of you who've had the camera for a while, how's the LCD screen holding up?

my parents have it...the wrist strap is off. They use the canon soft leather case. I've dropped the camera on accident twice and it still works and looks good (minor scratches, but barely noticeable).

i think u can make ur own lcd protective cover...donno i saw it somewhere in this forum or some other forum... I can't really remember.

The thing takes NICE VIDEOS!!! well, not "NICE!!" but pretty damn decent short videos for quick viewing on the internet.
My dad loves the camera

EDIT:

look where it's made in!!!!!! :) :)

I have the wrist strap on, and a nice little Canon ultrasuede case rather than the leather one. It has a zippered front pocket for an extra battery and CF card.

Anyone use a screen protector? I'm frantically searching for one right now to no avail.

Do you have a link to that case?

I always use the wrist strap. No case on it right now. I keep meaning to order one but it always slips my mind.

I need something to protect the LCD screen as well. I don't have a cover and I do use the strap.

i love my s200. i only use the strap when i take it skiing and don't want it falling in the snow :p

as far as cases, i bought a soft case that holds extra memory cards, but for biking and skiing / snowboarding, i went to the EMS / REI type store called hudson trailfitters and they sell these re-inforced hard cases that prevent the camera from breaking even if you fall on the case. pretty sweet.

the camera is plenty durable. i abuse it pretty good and it doesn't even have so much as a scratch. a few fingerprints on the lcd, but that is all.

I always leave my wrist strap on. its never been a problem for the 2 years I've owned it. In fact its saved me from dropping it a couple of times.

I have the Canon sling bag for my camera, so no advice on that case, sorry.

Ya, I'm old school S110 Digital Elph. I use the strap and the seude case. The strap as saved the camera a number of times, so worth it IMO. I don't know about the leather case, but the case i have doesn't scratch the LCD. Works well.

Same one I have. Its a great little camera. I'm going to upgrade to the 300D, soon, but I'm keeping that one for an easy to carry option.

guah!! i wanted him to find out for himself and walk out in the rain for it! :p

LOL, yeah I noticed that on the bottom of the camera when I opened it. It didn't amaze me at all. But now that I think of it, that's the first time I've seen a Made in Japan tag in a while!

For number 1, the question was do you keep it on or off, so is it yes to on or off? = )
