Open Office.

Good day to all the members:

Of course this is a free productivity software with Linux origins. But i wanted to know if it works for Win7 OS and if it does it properly.

Or are there any other free alternatives to MS office that get the job done as well as open office?

Hope to get some advice. Thanks in advance for any advice 🙂

LibreOffice is the community successor to OpenOffice that's gaining more steam and support with all the major Linux distros, so I suggest using that instead.

Anyway, I haven't found a free office suite that bests Open/LibreOffice, in terms of comparable features to MS Office. It's what I use, and probably most others who don't use MS Office.

Actually, the program originally started out as Star Writer/Office. If I remember correctly, Star actually supported Windows before Linux. Anyway, I see no reason why it should work any worse under Windows 7.

I use Open Office with Win 7 x64 and have no issues with it at all.

i have libreoffice (and openoffice) and ms office 2007 all working on my win7 x64 laptop. i actually prefer using libreoffice.

AFAIC OpenOffice is dead. LibreOffice is the real project, and they surpassed OpenOffice(albeit slightly) with their first release. OpenOffice was given fully to the community, but several months too late. I don't see it going anywhere other than obscurity.

Oracle killed OpenOffice, it will live on in two forms, LibreOffice and Lotus Symphony. The latter being like a derivative of the former as time goes on.

If IBM would release 64-bit .deb packages of Lotus Symphony, I would use it. Give it a whirl, I think you will find it better than LibreOffice.
