Ubuntu will not include OO 2.4 until a major OS Version is changed. Somebody MIGHT backport it, but don't expect it to be officially supported until a new OS is released.

Hmm, Ubuntu's auto update didn't say anything about Ooo.

Yeah, I had to install it myself.

expect it in the 8.04 upgrade, which is due....well, soon. its april, were you that in a hurry for a new Openoffice version, or do you not plan to take the 8.04 update?

I upgraded it on my laptop, which is my "experimental" system. However, not experimental enough to go with a pre-release version of Hardy.

I actually don't have any .docx files to test it out with. I'm still angry at Microsoft's successful fast tracking of OOXML as an ISO standard :(

I believe 2.3 has support for docx, the problem is it looks a lot like a zip file so ubuntu (gnome) wants to treat it as such. Just open it in OOo and you should be good.

i had a misunderstanding
i think with 2.4 you can save to docx, which you cant do with 2.3

yes, it opens docx, i forgot about that, as my interest comes from having a class that *requires* docx submissions :-/

I have OOo 2.4.0 and I could not find any way to save as a docx file.
