As far as I know, this string of cars stretches all the way across the country to California and the reason this lane is traveling so slowly is that people are hesitating for a moment before driving into the Pacific Ocean. So, quit flashing your lights and quit driving like an (3 letter word for donkey). Oh, and when you see that 50 yard break in traffic in the right lane and think you're going to zoom past 10 of us again, be assured that we'll close ranks again and not let you succeed in passing on the right.

What's up with these idiots who think they own the road?!

And more observations after driving 1500 miles in a couple days:
Pennsylvania idiots: You aren't supposed to use high beams when there's oncoming traffic.

As soon as i started reading it i thought to myself, this has to be in PA.

Oh and quit classifying all Pennsylvanians in one lump sum... that's like me saying "New York idiots.. learn to use a turn signal!" 'cause we all know you never do .

You don't seem to realize what "lump sum" means.

Apparently about 30% of the people who replied to this thread don't understand that you can't go any faster if the car just ahed of you moves over to expose you to the next car going the same damn speed.

Yes, because my driving all over Pennsylvania, because the fact that I just happen to live there has shown me that everyone and anyone drives with their high beams on 24/7. I rarely ever encounter this and I do just as much from non-PA drivers. But I guess his experience goes beyond mine for some unknown reason, hm?

EDIT: It is also right of me to say, "You don't seem to realize what 'counter-point' means."

How do you know he wants to go faster than I want to go...
You seem to share that persons mentality. I want to go faster too. Faster than the string of traffic I'm in. But, I'm not flashing my lights at the person in front of me, and he's not flashing them, and so on and so on for the next 3 miles of cars.

From Scranton down to the end of the NE extension on the turnpike, there had to be at least 40 cars with their high beams on. Very out of the ordinary. Other things that I noticed: there are far fewer cars with those (some find them annoying) blue headlights in Ohio than in PA, and fewer in PA than in NJ. There weren't enough oncoming cars after dark on I-86 in NY to make a comparison; from 9:30 until 11:00 last night (we had a contest to alleviate boredom and actually counted) there were only 228 oncoming cars/busses/trucks. Mostly trucks; this from the PA border near Erie until exit 28.

Very awkward, I don't think I've ever encountered something like that, although I don't travel south of Scranton that much... since I live closer to NY (10 minutes vs 30 minutes to Scranton)... it's pretty obvious where I'd rather travel to more often. I find that quite a lot of people in NY don't use their turn signal though and it bothers me if someone passes me without ever using their signal :|. Although, I have seen people from PA (in NY) do the same thing.

His point was there were also many cars in front of him. . .he'd have moved over to let this guy pass and then the guy would just be up on the next person's tail. So every single person in the left lane should move over because 1 guy wants to go faster? If that were the case then the leftmost lane was actually created for the sole use of Ricky Bobby and nobody else should drive there, ever.

For some reason, I really enjoy acting as a "hive-mind" with a crowd of perfect strangers to shut down some douchebag. :D

Absolutely! Truckers for some reason are excellent at that, especially in the case of lane closing. They ride up 70/30 on the closing lane, preventing douchebags from flying down and cutting people off right where the lane ends.

No way, I've driven from michigan to new york city multiple times and I can safetly state that NYC and the entire state of new jersey has *the* worst drivers ever.

Trust me, southerners are much, much worse. Louisianans tend to drive slowly, but they usually aren't horribly inconsiderate. Mississippians are apparently insanely inept when it comes to realizing the purpose of a two-lane highway (i.e., the left lane is for PASSING, not cruising along at 45 mph). Alabamans are also pretty bad.

But, by and far, Georgians are the worst. I lived in and around Atlanta for 20 years, and I have never seen so many people do so many utterly inexplicable things while driving. Randomly stopping at green lights to let left-turners from the opposite direction go, completely misunderstanding the purposes of blinkers and hazard lights, forgetting how to operate an automobile at all when it rains, and spazzing to insanely ridiculous degrees when the power goes out at 4-way intersections (a traffic light without power = a stop sign...anyone, anyone?) are just some of the occurrences I dealt with on more than one occasion.

I'm one of those aforementioned douchebags. Know why I fly all the way up to the end of the merging lane, then merge? Because traffic shouldn't come to a fvcking HALT when 3 or 4 cars try to merge into traffic. The people in the lane right next to the ending lane, are, more often than not, the ones that can't drive.

Actually it's dbags that have flown down that lane before you that make the traffic halt. Without them people would actually merge ahead of time, as opposed to making the whole single colum stop because you feel the need to cut them all off and merge where the lane ends.

Umm, how about I-5. LA to SF. That's a PITA sometimes in the evening on Sundays when most people come back. Semis litter the whole right lane, so people pass on the left. Honestly, a lot of people drive ~90 going down I-5, but there are those who drive in the right and think that they can merge into the left to pass a semi by going 75. This is why I-5 has stretches where you go 90 and then you slow down to 75. Then you watch semis past semis going barely 2 - 3 mph faster than each other. This causes a slowdown of 4 - 5 min. Then you speed up to 90+ until the next group of semis and you slow down once again when people want to pass.

I feel that passing means you want to get around someone by going faster WITHOUT interfering with the passing lane's traffic. Then again, this is seriously not the case..

I understand, and agree with, what you're saying...but that still isn't going to make me let in someone who does it.

thats the whole point idiot. no one owns the road. he can drive wherever he wants and doesnt have to move.

This is definitely NOT TRUE. In this case it sounds like traffic sucked, but two points here.

1) All things being equal you are not to obstruct the left lane and must move for faster traffic. The law is keep right except to pass. So yes, he should move over when he can.

2) The reason that traffic was slow is because the ass at the front of the line won't move out of the way LIKE HE IS LEGALLY SUPPOSED TO.

In Tampa, traffic moves just dandy after the point where incoming traffic merges, FL drivers really do not know how to handle merging traffic. Here's a hint, STAY AT THE SPEED YOU WERE PREVIOUSLY AT. Hopefully, the people trying to merge aren't idiots, and can easily adjust their speed so that they just slot right into gaps in traffic. That's why onramps are several hundred feet long, so you can gauge traffic and get on the highway without backing traffic up for 5 miles.
