Open Box VelociRaptor at the Egg 199.99

If the box is open, doesn't the velociraptor get out? And then wouldn't chaos ensue in the neighborhood, as it goes around eating everything??? 😕

Yep, it seems to eat most other hard drives for lunch.

I've always sworn to never buy an open box or refurb HD but this isn't a bad deal, really. So basically if it had issues you could just get it replaced under warranty with a new one? Hell, why not?

IMHO, this was an excellent deal.

For some reason or another people seem to be polarized by these, and all Raptor drives.

You either love 'um, or you hate 'um.

I happen to appreciate the seek speeds they offer while others couldn't care less.

Course, I'll also be an early purchaser when decent 70-80GB SSD HDs hit the 3-400 mark... the dollar/GB per speed threads otta really get interesting! 🙂

Or, you could get it replaced with another used one

Well, depends. If it were just RMA'd to Newegg and they turned around and sold it as Open Box, then yes it will have the full warranty. If it was actually refurbished by WD, then it will only have a 90 day warranty (and usually will say Refurbished in light blue print diagonally across the label).

Also, warranty replacements are not guaranteed to be brand new, though with new models they usually are for a little while.

Well, at least you know they have been tested.

I have no idea if they test every new drive, or just a few out of a batch.

I had a raptor and currently have a SCSI setup. And to be honest neither of them are really noticeably better than these new larger drives.
