Hey guys i was planning on buying a new 24" monitor from newegg and was wondering if anyone had purchased an open box product from them? Maybe they bought an open box and the monitor had 123 dead pixels or was doa?

Well the three monitors that i have bought from newegg have been ok. But ill definitely look around. Thanks for the heads up!

Some open box stuff at NE can be ascribed to end users being not very tech savvy rather than gear malfunctioning. I've bought non-enthusiast open box hardware with great success in the past.

Ask yourself: why would someone return a monitor? What are the odds of the user being so dumb they can't figure out how to plug in a monitor vs. eating a shipping and restocking fee because the backlight bleeding or number&location of live and dead pixels was just too much for them?

If you can buy your monitors at Costco. Best return policy which lets you play the panel lottery if you're into that sort of thing.

very very valid points v8envy. Thanks a lot i think that i am just going to have to do some shopping around to find the best price.

My experience with open box on newegg (video cards) was terrible. I ended up buying a new one, YMMV though.

unless you really have no choice, or some particular monitor you want is only at newegg i'd not buy a monitor there.

the prices arent that great for most of the better monitors compared to other stores. and if you just need a "cheap" monitors, the office stores like office max of office depot always seem to have better deals .

wow thanks a lot guys...the hint that i am getting is to shop around at the local stores for better monitor deals. Looks like thats what i will be doing I just saw costco's website should i go to the store or could i buy online
