I didn't know either, but since we are here for news about deals I kinda put two and two together.

BTW, shipping is around $6.50 and there's tax to CA at least, so the price ends up being ~$35. Still good, but I didn't go for it since new dual format 4X seem to be only $20 more which is worth it for me. For a mega budget system, this looks good though.

but, if you already have a dual format 4x drive and want one that you can rip and burn cdr plus a little dvd action to save the wear and tear on your 4x, this is a great deal.

How expensive are disks for this drive. I don't want to be stuck paying to much for media for an already limited burner?

well bestbuy normally do brand dvd+r disks for 25 for $25.

you can check places like meritline, allmediaoutlet or shop4tech for the cheapest disks. cheapest i've seen is $0.54 per disk, which is about 20c more expensive than the cheapest dvd-r disks i've seen.

Look at it this way: combo CDRW/DVD-ROM drives still sell for $40-50. Evene if you won't burn DVD's with this thing, it's still a good deal.

Good idea AnyMal, I actually need a DVD drive and the DVD burning could get me through until faster dual layer burners are out.

$33.78 shipped to Illinois. Great deal.

Thanks, OP
I was looking for a cheap 2nd drive for my other pc.
Once the dual layers come out and drop a bit in price, I can give this one to my dad.

Maybe there is a firmaware that would make it a dual format as well.....?
