Saw this. It's "Grade C" (Scratch and Dent), so condition is probably a lot less than "showroom", but if you need a cheap runabout laptop, this seems like a decent one. I'd get one myself for S&G, and maybe to help out a friend with one, but I need money for car repair this upcoming month.

A better-performing option, to be sure, than those little CloudBooks with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC. (Although, you'll probably want to replace the 320GB HDD, with a 128GB SSD for $30 additional.)

We don't say "solid construction" lightly—like other EliteBooks, the 8460p is a business-rugged system, built to withstand military tests for shock, vibration, dust, and heat.

According to the PC Mag review, this was originally a $1200-1300 laptop. Seems from the review description to be well-constructed, too.

Not a bad deal at all. I purchased the exact same model off Newegg a couple months back but a better grade and it runs great. I dropped in 4gb more of ram to utilize dual channel and got a great deal on an i7-2820QM off Ebay and now it really flies. I swear it's just as fast as my wifes i5-7200u Lenovo.
Something to be aware of though is it has a very poor screen and very basic sound. Viewing angles are awful and it only has a single speaker on the bottom of the laptop.

Ironically it's the same laptop you called "vintage hardware" when I had a question about the gpu acting weird on Windows10 and now here you are posting it as a hot deal.

LOL. So I did, so I did...

Anyways, thanks to your thread, people know what to do when their iGPU display looks all "funky" like that, disable "max power saving" on the VGA.

I've been impressed by the HP probook 640 refurb I picked up last year at about $230. Its a haswell (4th) gen i5 though. I've been a fan of the small nuc/brix type machines but lately refurb laptops are hard to beat price/perf for a small pc for light tasks.

Id rather get a 7th gen i3 used on ebay for 150ish.. the pro series Hp sounds good for 230. Cant imagine what someone would use the heavy hot i5SB lappy with dead battery for ;) even if the battery is new i think its a 1.5 hour max life ;)

@killster1 You got a link to those 7th gen i3 laptops selling on Ebay for 150ish? I'd be interested in checking them out. My kid needs a new laptop and that seems like a decent deal.

Your search doesnt work? /laptop/specify which cpu requirement i3 7th gen 8th gen etc then click search. then after that you save the search and look back from time to time since good deals dont last long. Shocked i need to tell you how to do simple internet shopping tho ;)

i wouldn't make a child use a i5 sb laptop with dead battery they would prefer any tablet for any task imaginable.

The laptop even has an eSATA port. Perfect for DIY NAS.

Or buy a USB gigabit ethernet adapter, and turn it into a pfSense firewall.

As I thought, those $150 7th-gen i3 laptops, are rarer than Unicorn Blood on ebay. :) That's ok, thanks for trying.

Must have been a deal like this one, a 256GB USB2.0 flash drive, for $10.99. LOL. Riiiight.

Edit: It's not that I don't believe that you picked one up for that, it's quite possible.

It's just the implied sort of statement that that's a "normal" price for those, and I don't believe that to be true.

I think it's more likely that you saw a one-off sale from a private individual, or it could have been a "scam sale", like a $20 or so RX 570 I saw one time. Yeah, right.

Edit: This current deal is OOS anyways, sorry for the bickering. My recommendation, is, killster1, if you find a 7th-gen i3 laptop deal for $150, post a thread on it here in Hot Deals. You'll receive untold adulation and thanks. Or maybe just a like. Who knows. :)

These are solid machines. I bought a decent one off of woot a few years ago. I went to 16 GB RAM and an i7. I ran the windows off an MSATA, put an SSD in and bought a matching bay HDD tray with another SDD. I triple booted from the boot option at start up. Very capable machine. I also swapped an SSD with VMs on it and easily ran 4 VMs for demos.

Mine also has discreet Ati video and a decent resolution. They need a copper shim to avoid overheating but it's a pretty easy fix when you swap the CPU. It is very easy to work on these.

Battery life is short, so be near an outlet if you have along day.

Are you really going to try and call me out on how I treat people in other threads? Get a life man and lets face it the reason you can't search out these awesome "deals" for us is because they are few and far between or don't exist and you know it.

I picked up a 8460P two years ago for about $200 from used-pcs.com. The only problem I had was with the BIOS when I did the free upgrade from Win7 to Win10. I had to contact HP tech support to unlock the BIOS.
