*OOS* AMD Athlon XP T-Bred B 1700+ OEM - $44 shipped

This is a much safer bet than newegg which has been trying to liquidate its T-bred A's for a while now, and only $2 more.
While it is not the coveted "DLT3C" T-bred B, this is by far one of the greater values. These should hit 2ghz easily and reach about 2.2 with a little voltage increase. Nearly all people who have bought one of these reports a green pcb "DUT3C" and a week of 0311. If you have bought one and overclocked it, can you please post your results as it could help some people to decide whether or not to get one (me including =D). Thanks.

FYI Ignore the Palomino image, this is a T-bred B.

I ordered from googlegear 4/25/03. I received a green DUT3C JIUHB 0311 XPMW.
12.5x166=2075 using GC118 HSF at default 1.6 V.
Haven't messed around with FSB above 166 yet. I have no doubts this CPU can go higher.

Same $44 price at NewEgg, as mentioned in the big NewEgg 1700XP THREAD. I'd also recommend the Googlegear chip until NewEgg stops shipping those old "A" chips.

this might be the same chip i bought from excaliburpc a month or so back. i have my 1700+ running @ 12.5x177 I believe (2.2ghz), and I KNOW it can go higher, but any higher and my ram can't run 2-2-2-4-2t, so i just keep it right there. if this is the same code as the one i have (bought for around 50 i believe) then it's a stellar deal. runnin @ 40C, 44C load, with volcano 9, and soon to be lower when I get my mcx462+ in the mail.

I love these CPU's! I bought 2 of them awhile back, they both do 2GHz (166x12), although both need a slight voltage boost to 1.675V to be stable. They'll do 166x11.5 at default voltage though. I haven't tried going any higher than 2GHz, but I'm tempted to try now that some people say they'll do 2.2GHz.

I ordered one of these about a month ago from GG. Got a JIUHB0311XPMW. With my new Abit NF7 board I could only get it up to 1.8 ghz at default 1.6v. The highest I could get it to go was 2 ghz with 1.75v. Couldn't get it stable any higher no matter the voltage or FSB. I have to say I'm extremely disappointed in this chip, but others have had really good results so it might be my setup or I might have just gotten a dud.

Do you have to unlock these things also? Does that video over at THG show the correct method to overclock it?

They should be mostly unlocked. Nforce 2 boards automatically unlock them.

Are you saying that an MSI or Epox motherboard based on the nForce 2 chipset would mean I wouldn't have to do some screwey pencil trick? SWEEET. Think I'll get one and try it out. :Q:beer:

I wish i had one of those. I bought a TBREDA from newegg last week and it only goes to 1.8 ghz w/ a 13x mult and a 145 fsb wish i had those B's 🙁

Older boards require pencil trick - never nforce2 boards(not sure about others) can unlock them automatically and will give you access to higher multipliers (>12.5) as well 🙂

T-bred B is not locked. Period. Doesn't matter what board.
My Shuttle AK32A was limited to a 12.5x multiplier, but my MSI KT4 Ultra can go to 15.0.

It should, but it may not be AMD "approved" for higher XP ratings. In other words, if it's an aluminum bottom, then it may only be approved for 1800+. The copper bottom ones are approved for higher. So it will work, but if you start OC'ing, it may not be the best, if aluminum bottom...

Sweet, I have a KT4 Ultra, maybe time to buy a new chip, hmmm... Nice that I wouldn't have to do surgery.

Any fact to the rumors that the lower XP chips are being discontinued? I read this somewhere. If so, how long will GG keep getting stock of these?

These chips actually overclock quite nicely and run fairly cool.
I have Glacialtech HSF on both of mine. One runs 5000rpm (loud) and the other runs 3300rpm. The CPU oc'd to 2400+ (2GHz) gets up to 48C max with the 5000rpm HSF, and 52C max with the 3300rpm HSF. These temps fall well below the max, which I've heard is 70C. The Glacialtech HSF's I'm using actually seem smaller than the retail HSF, so I even think the retail boxed HSF is plenty adequate for overclocking to around 2GHz.

one of the great features of the chip, it is unlocked from the factory.....😉

Guide to choosing an Athlon XP Thoroughbred Revision B

Oooooo, I want to buy one! After all, it is my BDay in two days, but this chip was $50 what, like two weeks ago, or less? The price is dropping like a rock.

Again, comments on AMD discontinuing this chip?? Maybe I'll go search...

Since I am buying the Asus A7N8X Deluxe for my new system, should I go with this chip to get the most OC bang for the buck, or jump up into high model, say XP 2100+ or 2200+?

Money is kinda tight and I still need to get some quality RAM and a vidcard...

Opinions are wanted... feel free to add them... 🙂

Decisions, decisions...

What do you think about the Coolermaster DP5-7JD1B-0L that GG has for the xp1700.
here
I dont like the odd size 70mm fan, but what are the chances of hitting 2gig with this HSF?Any other choices between this and something else around $25 for HS and Fan?

Yep -- it's already happened:

Link to 1700+ at vibecomputers.com

But does this really prove anything? Maybe this vendor has just decided to stop carrying the chip, thus it's "discontinued" for them?
How about GG's stock on this then? When will they run out, if it is indeed discontinued.
