yo,

so the situation is, at work we're looking to buy a couple of computers. We're shopping through Dell and only have a couple of options in terms of video cards. We spend nearly all our time in front of the computer; I haven't kept up with the state of the video card industry, so I need to know which of the following i should go for, and an explanation behind your choices would help me out a lot, too:

#1: 32MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 4X AGP
#2: NVIDIA TNT2 Pro 16MB 4X AGP
#3: NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS 32MB 4X AGP

BTW, most of the work we do here is CAD work, so 2D is a priority...

thanks,

2d as a priority then the Nvidias are not your best bet.. although they are OK at it they are not topps

mind you, for their 3d speed, nothing beats an Nvidia.. if it's 2d you are looking for, Ati or Matrox for most standard PC's is the way to go.. when I leave work where my computer runs an ATI card and I come home to my GF2, it's not quite as nice to look at... mind you, the ATI is terrible for gaming.. but it's 2d quality is KICK ASS.. it is very clear and very color rich..
if 2d is your priority only get a cheap ATI 8MB or something and you will honestly be satisfied.. if you need some 3d power but 2d is still a priority, go with something like a chopped-down Radeon VE or something. if you need really good 3d power then an Nvidia is best, a GF2 GTS or more are very fast..

but I can't speak enough for ATI's top notch 2d quality as well as Matrox...
