wow they rape you on the window & brakes. $1200.

I'm sure it'll be like $200 if you do it yourself
 
Doesn't sound too bad for the service you received.

Just don't buy German car. You'll die of heart attack when you see $3k bill is the norm.
 
Just got my 30k service on my truck at the dealer. $640 to suck all the fluids out of every orifice and refill, lube everything, change filters and plugs, rebalance and align. I think they charged me for blinker fluid.

Edit: Charged me $25 for "battery service". What the hell is that? On a sealed battery?
 
You got seriously ripped off- Why did you go to the dealer? I got new front brake pads and rotors installed for $100. 1/4 per wheel what you paid. The window should be something you can fix yourself in an hour or two at most. There's no excuse to pay $400. Timing belt you can replace yourself in 15 minutes, and all the fluid changes would be dirt cheap at a regular mechanic.

When you look at the type of car he has and the type of brakes (Brembo) you can easily see that it will not be cheap to fix. Wether he needed new rotors or not is something we can't judge. If the brakes only needed pads and the rotors were not scored, warped or excessively worn then the brake work could have been done much cheaper. Timing belt is not a shade tree mechanic job, unless you are very skilled, have the shop manual and a whole day to do it. On that car, I can see the dealer wanting to change the water pump, as most of the parts to get to it, come off anyway to do the timing belt. As to the window, $400 is way to much, unless the motor & regulator went bad and even then, that does seem on the high side. Most times, when a window fails, it is just the switch or the reversing relay. You are only looking at 1 hr or so to replace a window motor.

My 2004 Suburban has a little over 90k and still has the original brakes all the way around.

And they aren't even close to being worn out.....and we bought a 22' boat last year and towed the hell out of it.

There's no place anywhere that'll test AND replace a window motor for 1hr. Remember, someone has to test it to figure out what's bad....not like he already knew it was the motor when he took it in.

You won't get pads and rotors installed like he has for 100 bucks.


Yes, the dealership is typically more expensive than an independent, but usually the techs are better and some people enjoy the convenience and don't mind paying for it.


Like I mentioned before, some people shop online, some shop at the mall.

I always ask them not to wash my car, dealership car washers are charity cases and will through their own ineptness, introduce your paint job to the wonderful world of serious swirl marks.
 
Not that anybody cares, but I got supremely ripped off and I'll put myself out there for the LULZ.

The 105k service was NOT performed - only a timing belt and water pump, nothing else. I went over the itemized worksheet. Change spark plugs was additional 350 bucks...you gotta be fucking kidding me.

Called corporate after they left me a message wanting to rate my "experience". I was somewhat OK with the price given the work involved but on their own website (stealership) a B5 service (timing belt, other major stuff as listed in OP) is listed at 900 bucks. I was hit for 1500-1600 for timing belt and water pump ONLY.

They *might* have hit the terminals with a wire brush. ...if anything.

I looked at your profile...is your local dealer Acura of Oxmoor?

Their "4" service for $900 doesn't include replacing the water pump. It sounds like they're just replacing the timing belt and adjusting the valves. Adding the water pump to the service is another $150-$200 for the parts (pump and coolant) and 1/2 hour labor @ $100-$150/hr.

Did you have the drive belt replaced? It should've costed around $50 for part alone and there should not have been any labor charge as the belt has to be removed to access the timing belt.

$350 for plugs is way too much. $200-$250 is more like it. Make sure you get the transmission serviced soon as well.
