timing belt, new water pump, flush/replace all fluids, tune up/plugs, etc
passenger window stuck/won't work = $400
new brake pads and rotors = 800

Add in tax and I'm over 3000. 2004 acura TL. I know I needed a lot of work but jeez.

Not that anybody cares, but I got supremely ripped off and I'll put myself out there for the LULZ.

The 105k service was NOT performed - only a timing belt and water pump, nothing else. I went over the itemized worksheet. Change spark plugs was additional 350 bucks...you gotta be fucking kidding me.

Called corporate after they left me a message wanting to rate my "experience". I was somewhat OK with the price given the work involved but on their own website (stealership) a B5 service (timing belt, other major stuff as listed in OP) is listed at 900 bucks. I was hit for 1500-1600 for timing belt and water pump ONLY.

at 105K miles and 5 years, that's a fantastic fuckin' warranty unless he paid to extend it. I don't think a timing belt/water pump are easy to do are they?

The car actually has 155K so the water pump and timing belt are needed.

Yeah, they are the brembo brakes just didn't figure it would be that much. Oh well, at least I get a 2008 MDX as a loaner for a reach around.

That said, the problems in the original post are why I bought the longest extended warranty (120k) Honda offered.

Is there some reason you took it to the dealer? Seems like a huge premium, and there's nothing especially tricky about any of the work they did.

If you must know, convenience. I don't have a lot of free time and time is money.

Drop my car off, drive away in a loaner vehicle, call me to approve work and when it's done. To that point I am paying a premium.

What I am curious of is how you drive 30,000 miles a year and manage to average north of 4,000 posts on this site alone while maintaining a life. You must have some serious time management skills and one heavy right foot.

Yep, that's fixing something.

The rest is routine maintenance, and everyone here is wrong......not just anyone can do all that stuff at home, especially the timing belt.

Of course anyone who tinkers with cars themselves would be shocked at dealership prices, but not everyone has the time or know-how to find parts on the internet and do the work at home.

Plus, as a general rule, factory parts are the best ones for your car if it's pretty much a stock ride, and they typically cost more.

Sure, 2700 bucks seems like a lot of money, but it's just like the difference in shopping online or shopping at the mall.

edit: And I just noticed you said this was the first set of brakes and basically the first real big maintenance check?
Average that over how old the car is and it's really not that much.

How the hell did you make 155k miles on the original set of brakes? I had a 2004 6MT TL with the brembo package and only made it 35,000 before my first pad replacement and the dealership was amazed I made it that far stating the average 6MT needed pads ~ 25k miles.

An independent Honda/Acura specialist would have charged about 1/3 less and used the exact same parts (probably even purchased right from the dealer's own parts department).
