majestic I've driven one. THey are sweet, and also well beyond what I want to pay right now :)

triumph After driving a civic and being impressed with it yesterday I think you may be right - civics are nice for the money but you really get what you pay for with the VW.

<< Yeah, but wait until the electrical starts going in the VW in a couple years >>

What the hell are you talking about? The only VWs that really had a problem with electrical were the first couple of years from the West Moreland plant. Those are also the ones with rust problems. Stupid American workers.

I'd love to get a cabrio, but I dont' think my parents want to spend that much money

Actually, the price difference between the base level Jettas and Cabrios aren't al that substantial....several grand perhaps.

Also....the Wolfsburg edition Jetta is hitting the market now....definitely something to consider if you enjoy a sporty ride at all. I would probably purchase one of those Wolfsburg Jettas if I didn't already have a new car. :)

Went back to the dealer and the girlfriend gave it a spin. She was most impressed. It was hard explaining just how much nicer it was than a Corolla or civic until she took it out. Now just to get past the difficulty of coming up with the cash :)

My mother just informed me tonight that I'll probably have to wait until Christmas for my Jetta.
Apparently their tax return was only about half of what they had expected :(

toolgirl...you're not expecting any pitty are you? Just be happy your 'rents are footin' the bill for your car! Sh!t, as a youngster b/f I could afford to buy my own car I had to fight over a '78 POS full size chevy truck with a manual transmission ON THE STEERING COLUMN (anyone remember those?) with 3 other siblings. Talk about a cool ride to impress da chicks with :) NOT!

diesels do pump less into the atmosphere but only because they put out a lot of soot (not sure if that the right spelling) the black stuff that falls to the ground, where as non-diesel pump out quite a bit of carbon monoxide.

I've heard some claims that some element of diesel exhaust is one of the most carcinogenic gases produced.

Don't know if this is true or not.

Honda's are for people who can't afford Acura and too stupid to buy Toyota.

You couldn't squeeze me in a civic or a corolla. 6'0, 205 pounds and all legs just don't fit.

I was merely mocking spamboy.

spamboy is obviously lacking an intelligence. i won't post why you're wrong, because you probably won't be able to understand it.

VW's rule!

I am a guy in college (Penn State) getting my first (and very well paying) job in Richmond, VA with Capital One (The credit card guys)! I am looking at the VW Cabrio (I know, not a guy car, but I got a fiancee so I'm not trying to pick up chicks, I want a free Tanning package!), and the VW Golf 1.8T.

I can't believe the quality of the vehicles and the features you get for the price!

StrangeRanger,

My parents are making the down payment and the payments on the car until I'm out of school. Which would be about a year in the summer - now that I'm not getting it until later it means that I have to pay more ;)

I was just bummed because I wanted a new car in the summer that day. I guess it really doesn't matter when I get it.

Civics are anemic in looks, in engine, and generally for lemmings, but thats okay..

my gf just got 01 jetta gls vr6, it looks great, we got the 10/100 bumper to bumper, fast great looking car. Excellent stereo built in, i bought a aftermarket 6cd changer, which plugged right into the spot where the factoru goes, no probs.

Its different, to some respect, and when you MOD your vw, it doesn't look ricey for the most part.

plan to : lower car, new rims, dark tint, more stereo, maybe in years, add a body kit to modernize the styling.

have had 0 problems with it too!

Sure is expensive, and like the honda's there is not much to work on price for the decent models (vr6 etc). $500 over invoice is usually the price they go for.

You can't beat the bang for the buck right now, and of course, you can upgrade the vw's without becoming a victom of beaterz.com or riceboypage.com , which seems to be filled with jap cars, and have very little VW's ???

Besides, its a peppy cars, and well , all chicks dig them.

spamboy As I said earlier, drive a civic or a corolla, then get in a VW and the ignorance of your statement will be glaring.

vi_edit Hmm, well that ain't too good - how many fumes actually enter the cabin..?
