Onto my third Logitech G5?

Got my first Logitech G5 mouse. It worked lovely for the first two weeks, then it developed a terrible horrible squealing sound with the scroll wheel. Fortunately, Logitech support is as good as people say, and mailed me a new one without even requiring the old one back. Awesome.

...the new one is troubled too. This one is irritating because the left click button is "loose". It's hard to describe, but the net effect is left clicks make three sound effects -- the loose piece of plastic click, then the normal click, then the normal pulling away click. Hope that makes some sense.

Not the best QC, but I can imagine I'd probably get another new one if I call.

Get another new one. Your mouse is the most important input device you have on your system. If you do not like how it works, exchange it until it is. Eventally the QC will get it right!:)

I have found that Logitechs quality has dropped the past few years but they have great customer service, i just Returned the MX Revolution because it stuttered and stalled and was basically usless, it might be time to look somwhere else like i did, i bought a Razer Deathadder mouse and its mint i love it, who would of thought of going back to a wired mouse.

Try a few mice like Razer and Steelseries :)

That is nothing I am on my fourth MX518 and tried getting them to work right but nothing seem to work. Even tried ever single one of them on a different pc and tried using the PS/2 adapter to see if it would help any. Nothing. I don't understand why each of the three previous mouse started to developed freezing issues. It did it on the other pcs I tried as well so it wasn't the pc. I am ready to give up logitech mouses because it is annoying having to keep getting a new mouse ever few months though the first mouse lasted the longest. Around 6 to 8 months. The previous two 2 to 5 months max.

I've been thinking about a G5. They're on sale at Best Buy for $50, which seems to be pretty decent. I currently have a MX518, which is why I don't have a G5 right now. It's tempting and my roommate has a G5 and I feel that the movement is much smoother than my MX518.

That's not to say my mouse is any slouch, but it is near flawless. I am tempted by what I could be missing out on! :) I do photography and use a mouse still for retouching as I haven't been totally 'WOWED' by pen tablets yet.

I can't believe of all the QC issues you guys are reporting! It surely is a first I've read about it, but I'm sorry to hear of your troubles.

Oh yeah, my MX518 is about 4 years old and going strong! The black logo in the middle is nearly worn off, but everything else is tip-top. :)

Do you do any gaming with your MX518 ? How often?

I played games very regularly (probably a cumulative total of 10-20hours/week) for the first 2 years of college, but then I had to get serious about my major courses and was working around 50-60 hours/week for the last 2, so I didn't quite as much. However, that didn't stop me from LAN parties and using my computer for a few hours everyday.

Well I have noticed that my first MX518 mouse that lasted the longest I remember I did not game much until a little later after I got it. Then I started to game again a lot more. Not sure if how often you use it has something to do with how long it last but I am thinking it does. Though I expect any mouse heavily use to last at least a year. Wouldn't you?

I got a first generation G5 in 2005 I think and it's been working just fine since. The teflon feet are beginning to show some wear on the edges and the gritty coating is long gone but it still works great. I might give it to the girlfriend and buy a new one but with my workload these days it's really not important. I got this for better accuracy in CS:S and I don't get nearly enough gametime to warrant a gaming mouse purchase right now.

Definitely. Any mouse that costs more than $25, I'd expect at least a year. I think I ended up paying roughly $20 for my MX518. I bought a blue MX510 and a friend wanted it so bad, he bought me a new MX518. Been quite happy with mine and I don't think it's EVER skipped, despite the optical sensor.

This is even when I sometimes slam my mouse if I get pissed when I play online games. :p

Razer Diamondback 3G's can be found for about $30 on sale. I find those to be good for the price. Also, I've had good experiences with Razer's peripherals. I'm currently using a Razer Lachesis, and it's great. But if you don't want to spend that much money on a mouse I'd say a Diamondback would be a good choice.

i have the triple click problem you describe with my MX518. This one is the second MX518 I am on in 6 months - the first had the same problem. Both mice also have an annoying high-pitched whine. Other than these lapses in quality, I love my MX518...just wish it didn't have these issues.

I've had my MX518 and only recently have I had any tracking issue with it but even then, I still kill people easily enough in Battlefield 2 and am still capable of doing 3D modeling stuff on it. I probably should call up Logitech and have them send me a new one though...

What kind of info do I need to provide for them to get me a new mouse?

I would have just said the same thing, so instead I'll quote you. My Razer Diamondback's been going strong for years now. Screw Logitech.

Now make this my forth Logitech MX518 mouse now. This is not the only Logitech model mouse having problems though it seems. Reading about a lot of problems with their mouse. I don't think I will ever buy another logitech mouse unless they fix my problem somehow.

Did you keep your new G5 mouse you got as a replacement ? Are you still with Logitech mice or have you decided to go to another brand? I hate having my mouse break this mouse because this should not happen. Thinking about leaving Logitech for good but not sure yet.

I have two 2nd generation G5 mice and they have worked extremely well. Oldest one is about 1 year old and the newest one was bought in the Spring of this year. I'm quite pleased with them both.

:\ My 1st gen G5 is still ticking and working just fine; it's almost 5 years old now. I have a 2nd gen G5 in a box that I'ma gonna use soon (just to have a new mouse).
