Onstream IDE and firewire

Would it work to just put a onstream 30GB IDE in one of those external firewire boxes (like Pyro) and access it like that. Or would I run into software / hardware problems.

It seems faster than the USB solution they offer AND I hear thay have problems in the combo USB / Win ME.
Plus I hope Firewire is faster than USB

Advise please
