Only in Chicago...

The offence is parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. $100

For my part, the section of curb that should be painted yellow isn't. Do I have a chance?

To the officer who ticketed me: Tidings of comfort and joy to you too, pal <finger>

What's next, rabies shots for the Easter Bunny?

My kinda town...

Well if I was a cop and had to work on Christmas Eve besides being able to spend time with my family, I'd try to give out as many tickets as I could too.

We must mount a campaign to raise holy war on these sadistic men and women who bring tidings of fear and pain upon the denizens of our fair metropolis. :|

I didn't get the memo that laws are suspended on Christmas Eve, did you?

Merry Christmas and enjoy your present.

how much is the ticket?

if it's under $40, I'd probably just pay it and forget about it... then again, I used to account for parking tickets in my monthly budget back when I lived in the city 😛

It's in the first post.

Seriously, could they let a guy off the hook for 20 minutes while he unloads big, heavy gifts clearly visible in his car?

I'm pretty sure that laws apply 24/7. If you don't want a ticket on Xmas Eve don't break laws on Xmas Eve.

And how about trying a New Years Resolution: Grow a pair and quit whining about things that are your own fault.

How would you feel if there were a fire in your apartment, but the FD was delayed getting in to fight it because some selfish dork was blocking the hydrant?

Having said that, if you took a picture of your car in its parking position with the unmarked curb showing you may be able to succeed in contesting it.

Only in Chicago?

Only on ATOT would someone think that just because it was X-Mas eve, the laws don't apply to them...

Wasn't blocking the hydrant, there was definitely a few feet of clearance. No pics though.

Where do people get the idea that someone thinks laws are lax for one day? I sure don't. Maybe they're jumping to conclusions, which would be typical of ATOT.

Take a pic, and then argue it.

I sent in an appeal for getting a ticket for not moving my car during street cleaning, however, there were no signs on my side of the street. Still havent heard back from them, over 2 months now.

I've since moved my car last night. If the space opens up again (people have been in and out of it) I'll go for a pic.

The weird thing is the curb is painted yellow on the west side of the hydrant but not the east. I think they repaired or replaced that section of curb and never bothered to paint it. It's something like this:

yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyHwwwwwwwwwwwwww - where y=yellow, H=hydrant, and w=white (unpainted curb).
