If you find this country so fucked up why are you still here? There are so many countries that would take you as a citizen.

Brazil has the largest japanese and Lebanese populations outside of those respective countries.

In fact I think Brazil may have more Lebanese than lebanon.

I'm surprised there aren't more Japanese in the US than Brazil. Then again, if I was a rich Japanese businessman, and was going to have to learn a new language anyway, I guess it's hard to beat Rio :hmm:

That integrated diverse population is adding greatly to that country's success. Much like the population make up and diversity is adding to other South American country's success. Good for them.

Didn't Brazil have an ethnic Japanese prime minister/president? Or was that another Latin American country?

Their newly elected President's father was Bulgarian. I wonder if you'll find stories in the Brazilian press about her birth certificate...

Ghosn did a very good job at Nissan. That said, Mulally is doing a similarly good job at Ford, so it's not an only in Brazil story :)

Lol, can't make this stuff up:

In July 1997, the news magazine Caretas charged that Fujimori had actually been born in Japan.[26] Because Peru's constitution requires the president to have been born in Peru, this would have made Fujimori ineligible to be president.[24] The magazine, which had been sued for libel by Vladimiro Montesinos seven years earlier,[27] reported that Fujimori's birth and baptismal certificates might have been altered.

Looks like somebody's got their panties in a knot. Must not have liked the other thread having to do with American exceptionalism. Apparently, it is a bad thing to be proud of your country in this day and age. I know to blindly believe it is wrong but what's wrong with preferring your country over another?

Pride in ones' country is fine, but so is Reality. The problem with "American Exceptionalism" is that it promotes myopitism and automatically ignores foreign solutions to various issues. Sometimes the wheel can be reinvented, but other times it is simply not worth it.

Nothing wrong with national pride.

It's the "only" part that stinks of jingoism.

I did not know that.

Personally I prefer America to Rio. We have hot beach chicks too, but ours don't have penises.
