So, we know refined carbs is an addiction to many people.

I was one of these.

Gave it up for a year and a half. got to the 5% body fat, abs, girls like me etc, etc..

Like Recidivism, and drug relapse.

Is it only a matter of time before I hit depression or some other mental trauma, then UBER fatness? :\

Because even though I do not have that "craving" for ice-cream sandwiches anymore, the thought of me eating an entire box is still as vivid and awesome as it's always been.

You know how heroin addicts will yearn for the needle until the day they die,, I feel the same way about refined carbs.:\

Eating refined carbs used to be evolutionarily beneficial. Nowadays, it just makes people fat. Eat some to enjoy life, but set boundaries and limits. Just like everything else, moderation is key. Having half a Hershey's bar isn't gonna kill anyone, especially if you're active. Having a whole box of Hershey's bars will decrease your quality of life on so many levels, particularly psychologically. Just logic with yourself - it's not worth it.

Refined carbs don't make you fat believe it or not. It's the entire box thing that's killing you. I manage to eat junk food semi-regularly and not gain weight, and I used to be a land monster so it's not like I'm just one of those people that can eat anything.

yea. i understand ALL the good rational/logic... However,, when you get that box of ice-cream sandwiches and unwrap that first wax paper goodness...

All sense of worth/logic goes out the window,, you just can't help it, the overwhelming urge to eat a second sandwich before you even finished the first one, when the only thing through your mind is, "hey my other hand is free, it should be holding another sandwich" :awe:

soon, the rest of the box is gone, and you're depressed because You've hit Hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia

the addiction.. like alcoholicism..

common reason why drug addicts relapse: "being around drugs, taking drugs"

common reason why alocholics relapse: "drinking thinking it's only in moderation"

common reasons of recidivism: "being around other criminals, being released into poor neighborhood, broken glass,, blah blah "

Well, there are two things that refined carbohydrates do. They create an osmotic pull that makes you retain water - giving you a puffy look. Sure, you're not fatter, but you look that way. Secondly, refined carbohydrates tend to skew hormones a bit. This skew may contribute to retaining a bit more body fat (likely through decreased thermic effect of feeding).

Regardless if refined carbs actually increase your body fat or not, they do rot your body - they're proinflammatory, they promote insulin resistance, they frequently contain other crap in them (preservatives, carcinogens, etc), etc. It's really best to avoid them, unless you're an endurance athlete.

all sound reasoning.. i didn't know about the osmotic pull caused by carbs.. I thought salt was the only thing in our diet that contributed to most of that. :hmm:

i think i'm gonna go buy a box of icecream sandwiches and burn it.. lets see how this goes... working on the negative association thing..

Nope, every electrolyte, mineral, and complex compound in your body creates an osmotic pull. Carbs get stored as muscle glycogen mainly, which pulls water into the muscles and skin. It tends to pull in all the most unflattering areas, IMHO.

How about, go run for 30min, come home, and eat one ice cream sandwich? :p At that point, it's good for you because it's allowing you to restore glycogen post-exercise.

I have alot of studying all day, and if I add 30min run, that's 30mins run + 30mins rest + 20mins shower + 3mins icecream..

And i'm not so sure I study well post workout... Time constraint ... ugh.. i just want to be a billionaire and eat icecream sandwiches all day and buy women,, omg.. that'd be awesome...
