Online Warranties

I just went into a local car audio shop earlier and while we were talking to one of the sales reps i mentioned that a sub they had was twice the price i could get it for online, and he tried to tell me that any item bought online doesnt come with a warranty, and thats why their prices were higher. I, being the smartass that i am, asked him how my dell computer had a warranty on it, and he said it was just for audio things and not computers or some stupid comment like that. He told me that he just talked to a yamaha rep yesterday and the guy told him that any yamaha products purchased online dont carry a warranty. He said a Sherwood rep told him the same thing. Is any of this true at all? I told him that if a retailer, be it B&M or online, was licensed to sell a certain product, it should come with a factory warranty. So whats the truth about all of this?

Yes and no.

It depends where you buy the item from. The extremely cheap places most likely do not have any warranty because they are not certified from the manufacturer. Big places like Sounddomain.com carry full warranties, but if you goto a place like a Yahoo Shop, most likely they will not carry manufacturer but a warranty for a much less amount of time through the store.

Before you buyonline, inquire if the product comes with a warranty, espcially in audio.

Before I buy anything I would read the warrentys that they carry. Also, I would check out ratings for the site from resellerratings.com or epinions.com. If the company in question has a poor record steer clear. Telling some BS about online retailers is a tactic B&M stores use to get you to buy their items.
