What do you tea-heads use to brew your loose leaf?

Very similar to Leros. I've got a Bodum, which is a glass ball, with plastic strainer cylinder, and plunger. It forces the "spent" tea into a tiny cavity and away from the rest of the freshly brewed tea, thus stopping the brewing.

Its not good for multiple infusions.

I also have been known ot just throw tea into a mug with water and drink it like a gypsy.
 
So, I put some darjeeling in a ball infuser and put it in my travel mug, go to work and make a couple more cups of tea there with an electric kettle? How many cups can you generally make from the same leaves?

All this is pretty interesting. Are there any good books/websites for tea beginners?

You should be removing the tea after a certain amount of time (usually 7 minutes for black tea). Its especially important if you want to make multiple infusions.

Just fyi, only the first infusion will be heavily caffeinated.
 
The problem with a yixing is you can only use one kind and blend of tea with it. Using multiple kinds will ruin the pot.

Glass is best for an entry tea pot. Cast Iron is great for a daily pot. Ceramic has a certain pure taste you can't get anywhere else. Yixing pots are great but as I said you need quite a few. What animal do you have on yours?

If I were an entry tea drinker I would definitely go cast iron as it keeps the tea warm significantly longer and is going to keep your tea at a better temp during steeping.

I just have two pots for myself but they are of the plain variety though I did get my mother one that was a snail. One for pu-er and the other for oolong. For green teas I use a porcelein gaiwan. I don't really ascribe to keeping a pot for each blend of tea, that's just overkill. Most teas are very similar within a certain kind and I won't bother getting another pot unless the tastes were dramatically different. Heck, the flavor profile of the same tea will vary over the number of infusions that you take so I do not worry too much about mixing one sheng with another.

If I really want to be certain of a tea then I'll just use porcelein.
