I used online personals quite a bit at one time (I was living in a city in which I knew nobody). In my experience it's a good way to get laid, but not a good way to establish a relationship, since most of the women I met were pretty damaged in one way or another (some were floridly mentally ill, in fact). That said, I found it a pretty fun way to kill time, and I had some truly wild sexual exploits thanks to matchmaker.com and match.com.

[Duffman] Ohh yeah!!![/Duffman]
One of my better experiences started with a free one-week trial on Matchmaker.com. I signed up, posted an ad, including a pic, on Weds. Got a message from a girl on Thurs. She liked what she saw, but explained that she didn't post any pics after being harassed when she'd posted them in the past. She e-mailed me some, and she was GORGEOUS. Beautiful face, 5'5", 112 pounds, natural C cups, 2 years younger than me.
She was too nervous to talk on the phone, so we made plans to go out on Saturday. We had a few drinks with some friends of hers, she kicked them out of her place at about 2 AM, and we proceeded to do it 4 times before breakfast . . . I never did bother with a paid membership.
Keeping in mind what I said above, I'd suggest there's little point in a long-term membership. You'll get most of your action quickly, then it will taper off. If you're in a reasonably large metro area and have any kind of rap, you should be able to find quite a few good candidates, and I'd suggest you start working as quickly as possible to boat those bass. Keep in mind that, by virtue of the fact they've resorted to using online personals, these women are, as they say in real estate, motivated sellers, so you should have a relatively easy time of it.
If you really find love, that's wonderful, and I don't mean my experience should be yours.
