Want to play some racing games. I like Gran Turismo a lot, and have a logitech racing wheel. Anything good out there for PC that you can play against others? Been looking at Trackmania but it just looks insane. It is free though so that's hard to beat. I wish GT4 was online like it was supposed to be 🙁 - Whoever makes GT sucks.
 
son of a bastard. Well, I guess I paid attention to the 'Gaming' part anyways. Can someone move to PC forum?

FlatOut 2 is fun, but silliness.
Good for hilarious demo derby action though.
 
I havent done any mutliplayer racing. I only do single player in GRID and TD:U.
TD:U was supposed to be like the MMO of race games, but it didnt quite work out. Shame, the concept is cool. Maybe when the sequel comes out they will make it happen.
 
I liked Motor City Online when it was around. Apparently no one else did 'cause they didn't have the revenu to justify keeping it running.
 
Grid looks pretty fun. I have a feeling I'd get it and go online and find about 20 other people scattered about, though.
 

The problem with Iracing.com is that it's subscription based. What we need is the Unreal Tournament of auto-racing games, something where you buy it once and then it's free to play forever and can be modded and given custom maps.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. I've been with iRacing for a month and a half now, and I absolutely love it. The subscription plus having to pay cash for extra tracks and cars really threw me for a loop at first, too, but the amount of detail put into them makes it worth it to me. Plus, the subscription makes sense when you consider the big league, license, and stat structure they have in place. It isn't cheap to do what they are doing. The way they have everything set up is great, too, because you don't have to arrange set times to race with league buddies, you just hop into a race and you're good to go. Plus the subscription model keeps all the kiddies out, so you never really have to worry about idiots driving backwards or doing stupid stuff to ruin your fun.

It's hard to see the value if you haven't tried it. They have specials going all the time that will enable you to get a month or three for cheap just to try it out. It's not for everyone, to some it still wouldn't be worth it. I love it though.
 
Got a Demo for GRID but am having no luck getting my Logitech Driving Force working with it :X - I'm sure there's some way to finagle it into working.
 
I tried playing need for speed underground when it came out for the PC back in 2004ish, but the game was hacked to death. thanks for patching it , EA!!!!/sarcasm
 
Yeah I played NFSU back in 2004 with my wheel. Fun game...singleplayer anyways. That game actually worked with my logitech wheel aslo with no problem. It worked awesome.

Fast forward 5 years later and no games seem to recognize my logitech driving force wheel. Tried GRID and Trackmania and neither of the games recognized my wheel, I worked on them a lot and couldn't get it working.

Anyone know any PC racing games that are compatible with an old logitech wheel?

Can you use a wheel with that Iracing site?

You HAVE to use a wheel for iRacing. iRacing is a completely different challenge; it's a pure simulation that offers no driver assists or anything.

 
I doubt they could force everyone to use a wheel only. Seem very unlikely. Wish they at least had some kind of trial/demo. How am I supposed to know if I'll like it if I can't even try it without subscribing? :x

Do a search for "iRacing promotional codes" or something similar. You might find a discount somewhere. They run promotions all the time. Their codes seem to always start with "PR-". For my first month, I found a code that made the first month just $5...plenty cheap enough for me to try it out. Now I'm subscribed through July of 2010 because I loved it so much.

And yes, iRacing does force you to use a wheel and pedals. You also are forced to use cockpit view and manual shift at all times. When they say they are simulation, they aren't kidding.

I'm not sure how they enforce it, I'm sure they check device id's and drivers against a database as you mentioned.
