Online notepad?

I have Google Documents, Scrybe, email accounts, FTP, etc., but I'm looking for something quick that I can use online to type notes on, save, and access later at an computer without any other software than a browser. Kind of like an online scratch pad. It doesn't need to be extremely secure, I don't need a lot of space, and I don't want a convoluted interface. Is there anything free service like this?

EDIT: And it's a plus if it can support a limited amount of drawing, but all I really need is text

Spam necro added to by members who should know better.

I have flash drives, but I don't trust myself with them anymore. I've lost a couple in the past, a couple of them with bootable Linux or Windows and a ton of documents that I forgot to back up to my main computer. I still carry a flash drive around occasionally, but usually only when I have a presentation to give or large files I need to copy or share with another person.

I don't have a phone good for documents right now, just a cheap prepaid phone. I've used pocket pcs, smartphones, Nokia 770, etc in past for documents, but don't have that option right now.

For some reason I just had the visual of someone saving an important document as a post here, and having a mod edit some important details.

You're over thinking this, just keep saving an email to yourself as a draf in gmail. It will last as long as you want. Unlimited space, and always there.

/facepalm

ok ok ok

you need one of those wallet-chains so you can attach it to a flash drive!

if you want, you just make a new post here, youll even get free comments on the note suggesting a way to fix grammatical and logical errors or reminding you if you posted that note already....usually even with a handy link to the original (eventually)

I use the sticky notes thing on iGoogle

Just tried it. Not bad, though I wish I could just use the gadget/app itself, and not have anything else on the page. I think I'll use it if I can't find anything better.

Opera Link would do what you want, and you don't need to use Opera to access it.

Accessing Opera Link? from other browsers and devices
If you use a computer or device with a browser that does not support Opera Link, you can still access your browser information. Go to link.opera.com to log in to the Web version of Opera Link.

Todoist.com (*ist not *list) is the greatest online note taking/scheduling site ever. It makes a great iGoogle gadget too and seriously helped organize my whole life. It might do a lot more than what you're looking for but once you start to see how versitile it can be for task management you may start using it for more advanced features like I did. It's good enough for me to pay a small monthly subscription fee that gives you very minimal extra features just in hope that guy hosting it doesn't pull the plug anytime soon.

Do yourself a favor and at least check it out, the layout is very clean and unobtrusive.. there's even 2 different gadgets for a bigger and smaller look to choose from. I'll happily provide pictures of my account if anyone requests it to show how I've come to use it. I like to tell friends and family about it and show them how I manage my tasks and they've all been pretty impressed, though some swear they don't need the high level of organization and don't end up using it.

I've done that for a long time. I like Gmail, and I use it plenty, but I want a simple, uncluttered interface for writing notes that I probably won't keep for more than a week or two. I'm not overthinking this, I just want something relatively simple (Notepad-like), that I can use online. I don't need long term storage, don't need advanced searching and filtering, which is why I made it clear in my OP that I've tried other solutions in the past for this particular need.

And before anyone asks, yes, I do have a good old paper-and-pen pad, but I need something I can use online, as well.

http://www.google.com/notebook/download/

Best online notes tool, ever.

If you use firefox, you can use an addon that lets you add just about anything to your notebook from any browser window, and even allows bookmarking and saving things like videos iirc.
otherwise it can also be used as a simple notepad replacement

I will not be fooled this time! Almost a decade old necro about which tech solution to solve a problem, WTF is wrong with you man?!?!

haha necro... did keep exist in 09? probably not... I mean iphone just came out the year before... Android was years behind at that time.
