online music stores that sell mp3's with limited restrictions

So i bought a cheap MP3 player on newegg by a company named x-micro and ofcourse, it is awesome and can play WMA's and MP3's but not WMA's bought from MSN music or Musicmatch because apparently it doesn't support the DCMA protection stuff.

So i've done some research and I haven't found a store that sell's 99 cent MP3's of actual music you'd want to listen to. I hear eMusic sells unrestricted MP3's but because of that it can't get any of the major record labels to authorize sale, so all eMusic sells is crap. Is it true that you have to use Napster's program to play any songs purchased by Napster? What other stores are worth a hoot?

Unless I'm missing something I don't expect the holy grail of online music stores to exist but what online stores do you guys use to buy single tracks?

No legal ones, just that pirate Russian site someone will probably mention.

Napster sells DRM-locked WMA which can be used in newer portables (check their website for list) or you can burn to CD then rip the CD back to unlocked MP3 with some quality loss. Same deal with every other legal music service, except for using AAC (iTunes) or whatever Real uses.

How much quasi is in the quasi-legality of that site? Anyone care to explain?

Yeah, I am also aware of that, but that's almost as much trouble as sifting through all the detritus in Kazaa Lite.

Not sure, I have the $10-a-month Napster Premium service installed on my music server box, but I use it for playing back tunes I haven't bought. If I like something enough to buy it, I buy a real CD.

(The $10/month gets you unlimited playing of most of the thousands of the CDs they offer for no extra cost, but only on your PC, and only using their software)
