you do twice the work as if you attended school, and you get 1/2 the recognition when somebody sees your degree (with online written at the end of it). I am currently in an MBA program and the real classes are so much easier than the one's that are online. Just an opinion.

The degree DOES NOT have online on it anywhere.

I would imagine if it was from a real school, not a for profit degree mill, it could help you out. Online education is exploding and is becoming more credible particularly from real schools.

This is true. I'd imagine a "distance ed" degree from a reputable business school would be valuable, and more convenient than getting one B&M (Brick & Mortar )

Last time I looked into this there weren't that many "reputable" schools offering an on-line MBA program. Of those that did, Indiana University was the only top-30 business school (graduate) that I could find. Arizona State also has an on-line program, as does the Univeristy of Florida.

Now, if only I could find someone to pay my tuition in full and not ask for repayment...

Yep. Distance learning is going to play a huge role in the growth of universities over these coming years.

As others have said, online MBA's seem to be pretty much worthless. With so many people doing MBA's these days you need to go to a good school or you are wasting your time and money.

I initially made the mistake of enrolling at Phoenix, it sucked big time, did the 2 week intro class and quit. I thought I would enjoy the convenience but it turned out to be completely inflexible. Not to mention the fact that the people I had to work with on projects were lazy and had absolutely no initiative. It's like getting an MBA at a local podunk university - Worthless!

In the end I enrolled at the best school I was able to commute to, which so far has been excellent. The name of the school alone carries so much weight.

A good place to check out online and nontraditional degrees is degreeinfo.com. Check out the discussion board there.

I have a non-traditional degree BS/CS. I already had a degree in music performance and I took a programming job where they required everyone to have a BS/CS at least. It wasn't exactly easy - I have great respect for anyone who completes one of those.

That was the only time that anybody ever cared if I had a BS/CS or not, and they didn't give a hoot where it came from.

An MBA is only as good as the reputation it carries - you're paying for the brand name. A degree from Bumblefvcknowhere won't advance your career at all.
